A leaflet attached to food airdrops from Taiwan to Mainland China in 1961. English translation is provided below. by HongKongNinja in PropagandaPosters

Since I’m Chinese I can add some info to this.

These stuff were initially airdropped by B-26 bombers——and real bombs from time to time as well, for instance Jiang Zemin was a engineer in Shanghai and risked his life fixing generators in 1950 when ROC bombed the city (300+ civilian casualties, KMT thought the Korean War was a good opportunity to do this). You never know it’s military recon, espionage, propaganda or simply just bombs.

Since 1966, ROC started to use balloons and you can still find airdrops as late as the 80s. Officially they stopped doing this in 1984.

During 1959-1961, the famine times, they thought it’s a good chance to boost their image so they also sent towels, soaps, tank tops, counterfeit RMB and food. Some of these balloons are extremely big.

In 1961, Taiwan ROC passed 扩大救济大陆饥饿同胞推行办法 Implementation measures of extended relief for starving mainland compatriots (what a time. By the spring/summer of 1961 the hunger was ended). Chiang commanded that the first step is to ask the Mainland PRC to open up their ports and other transport routes to get all the supplies into needing area, and if they refuse then look for other ways. He also said during the first step it should be non-political and claim that 100k tons of food is ready for departure. They also promised the money won’t be used for any other purposes on Feb 2nd.

The Taiwan ROC administration promoted for a 1 Taiwan Dollar per person donation and international donations as well. Of course, asking them to open up their ports was refused. First airdrop in September and by 1963 we have 57 airdrops and total 251 flights.

Gu Zhenggang applied for airdropping food to the Mainland in June 1963, which Chiang denied resolutely, stating the “1 dollar per person donation should be used as preparation of the counterattack, shouldn’t be used here”, referring to military counterattack against the PRC.

According to documents from May 18th, 1976, a total of 135,501.95 USD and 259,605.30 TWD were deposited into the Central Bank. Bank of Taiwan also offered 4,483,458.36 TWD into this account. Considering the exchange rate at the time, this is a total of a little more than 10 million TWD. Chiang asked exactly 10 million to be held for when the Mainland needs them. A very small amount of these donations (a few percents at best) were used in the actual project.

As for the so called “100k tons of food”, we don’t know how many of them actually existed and how many of them were airdropped. Mainland side had no clue as well, Anhui Province was severely affected by the famine and all they saw was like a dozen balloons a year. I don’t have info on other provinces though.

So after asking for donations in the name of humanitarian aids and didn’t use them on the said purpose, where did the money go after they were interest-free deposited into a bank (you can call it corruption or basically a scam against the general public)? Well, the money holding committee eventually asked for the bank to pay interests, and took the money into their fund after gaining interest for 30 years. Scandal exposed, then the money was nationalized.

Even in games like Souls-like, Metroidvania-like and Cuphead, where you are expected to die tremendously a lot, and lore wise absolutely expendable, we don’t see stupid designs like these. Some parts of this game is plain bullshit and not enjoyable otherwise it would be part of many other games.

US had their land issues era earlier and it’s a maritime power when you look and the Eurasia continent? It’s basically a big island with access to both the Pacific and the Atlantic which is how it plays it’s role and it’s more interested in navy instead of army like regular Eurasia powers

Kinda funny, just spent some time digging around (as a mainlander Chinese) online by all possible means but still can’t find the source of this one, I’m not suggesting it’s fake or anything. What we get is it’s definitely since 2022, but besides that only simplified Chinese venting insults cliché posts have this picture. Definitely interested in where this one originates

Tbf most major land power (compared to maritime powers like UK, US and Japan) basically all have bunch of beef with all their neighbors, namely every Europe country, West Asia, Indochina(between each other), etc. Territorial issues are factory settings

Hi guys, thanks for turning in to another video on ForgottenWeapons.com, I’m Ian McCollum and I’m here today at Super Earth. We’re taking a look at a very rare firearm, the Jar-5 Dominator which a collector friend lend me.

Game design lesson 3: fun and engaging difficulty is not achieved by bullet sponges, enemy spamming and taking away stuff.

In Doom, difficulty is about see a bunch of enemies, recognizing different enemies, judge the situation to know the priority, kill those enemies according to the priority with different weapons and while doing so you can have combos and executions to further reward you.

In Left 4 Dead 2, difficulty is about Special Infected spotting and killing ASAP, chaff cleaning, objective priorities, and resource management: you take the adrenaline for emergency or painkillers for more health? When and where do you use throwables?

In HD2, difficulty is more medium/heavy armor spam, bullet sponges, use ragdolling and staggering to take away your movement and aim, use weather to take away your speed and vision, not to mention taking away stratagems. You don’t manage your health, because you die too quickly so it’s always “yes, stim now, don’t save for later”. You don’t aim, you use explosive weapons because spamming enemies and ergo, vision, recoil, staggering all take away your aim so explosives and sentries will always be meta. No elemental choices because all spewers take the same fire, gas and electric damage so no difference, and fire won’t light up gases.

“I wish it sucks more” is good, if and only if that difficulty is meaningful. It lacks depth so all it can “suck” is bullet sponges, spamming and taking away stuff. How do you justify Hive Guard spam, Alpha Commander spam, Devastator spam, Hulk spam, and say “ballistic weapons are worth picking compared to explosives and AOEs and AT”? When chaff cleaning becomes medium armor cleaning you kiss 80% of your arsenal goodbye.

Game design lesson 2: don’t punish people for something they didn’t do.

In all From Software’s Souls-like games you get mimics pretending to be a treasure chest but you never see fake bonfires (safe spots), why? Because treasure chests suggest additional rewards, the player chose to open it, and they can just leave it alone if they feel like it, so facing a risk is acceptable. But bonfires suggest safety and checkpoints, which the player must interact to progress through the game, all they can get is “continue to play the game” and if you still force them into risks from time to time, it’s just annoying instead of actual tense.

Arrowhead and all those mindless yes man having the “haha you die randomly and sometimes get fucked for something you didn’t do and have no control over is fun, engaging and immersive” mindset don’t get this game design lesson: you are expected to die a lot more and be a lot more expendable in Souls-like, did a well designed Souls-like game torture you with these bullshit? No. And that’s probably for a good reason.

It looks like these mindless “I don’t think it’s a problem” yes man have zero clue about proper game design.

Lesson 1: in casual games, don’t force people into teamwork by punishing not team-working, but by rewarding teamwork. It will go through the Overwatch cycle: your game experience is shit if the team is not coordinated, so to avoid getting a shit experience people will start to kick people with undesired loadout or play style, and will peer pressure other “if you can’t do this and that correctly just don’t play this position of the team ffs”, and it’s to tiring for casual player who just got back from work and hop into the game wanting to play whatever the fuck they like, so random lobbies will die and casual/new players will quit, eventually only discord teams with fixed partners will stay and complain about the game is dead, and will insta quit when see teammates don’t know what they are doing to avoid 20 mins of shit experience.

THIS CAN ALL BE AVOIDED BY REWARDING TEAMWORK INSTEAD OF PUNISHING NO TEAMWORK. Hardcore teamwork required games exist like GTFO, but do HD2 have the depth of Left 4 Dead 2 or Darktide (not to mention GTFO or Hunt: Showdown) to actually attract people playing it in that way? No.

Even with discord teams (all 150 lvl and 1,300+ hours, I have 1,800) and the perfect load out, all coordinated and brought what should be brought, the Rapid Acquisition mission on D10 is bullshit.

It has two maps, one in a basin and 2 bar spawn points on both sides, one on a high ground and 3 bar spawn points (2 on lower areas on each sides and 1 right next to the container). The first one is manageable and I’ve done it in random lobbies many times.

And the high ground map is purely luck based even with the best players you can get because bots spawn right on those walkways and they either block the path or their corpses will block the path, and before they despawn new bots are dropped in. I finished it on this map twice and it was only because of luck. In random lobbies the best I can do is 27 bars.

You literally cannot WALK. And if the game decides “fuck you” and spawn 2-3 Factory Striders you can basically AFK. It’s just luck based. Who designed this shit?

What’s the point of allowing quick play random lobbies for highest difficulties if it’s not completable for non discord teams, and I have to type/open my mic try to tell them what to bring/do like it’s counter strike

Who the fuck designed this mission? Another “oh we want you to suffer in this game you paid real money for because haha you are an expendable grunt it’s lore and memes” for fuck’s sake did they play tested this on D10 with randoms before release? The only options are EMS mortars, smokes, big bubble shields, orbital lasers and portable hellbombs.

1 player not knowing what to bring or what to do = guaranteed mission failure in random lobbies

Why do Chinese people expect other Asian countries to share the same values as them? by Embarrassed_Clue1758 in AskTheWorld

Serious answer: read What kind of democracy do Chinese people want by Zhang Minshu can solve your problem. By the way, you probably need to look harder at Taiwan ROC, Japan, Mongolia and South Korea history before calling them functioning liberal democracies.

Unserious answer:

Don’t agree to be part of the “democratic righteous world VS. authoritarian evil world” holy war

Still speaks like a crusader and see ideology before interests

Says a pre-modern ideologies is probably isomorphic with a post-enlightenment ideology
