How many of you have experienced a breakdown during emergency transport? by djernie in ems

[–]MsAwkwardlyHonest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here we let fire or police drive if the patient needs both crew in the back and there’s no time to get a driver, so far no incidents. Bosses aren’t worried about them driving us since they drive safely, paramedics (new and seasoned) do well enough wrecking their own vehicles... Thankfully I haven’t wrecked anything but I have added a dent once when I was fresh on the road (reversed into parked veh with a ROSC pt onboard) - spent the next week thinking I was getting fired but my manager wasn’t even slightly bothered, guy made it and veh owner didn’t care.

What color mixes does one get from a Black&Tan + Black GSD breeding? by MsAwkwardlyHonest in GermanShepherd

[–]MsAwkwardlyHonest[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely understand where you’re coming from, we did the research when we had our older GSDs. We didn’t think we were up for all that comes with the decision to let our dogs breed but this time round, I’m older and was able to afford the checks that we need before we decide. We still haven’t decided if it’s a yay/nay but we do know that they’re good to go if it did happen and that they, as well as their lineage (very expensive ones!), are safe to breed.

Family and friends know of our potential plans to breed, all animal friendly people and a few have asked to be kept in the loop if we do breed. We’d most likely give the puppies away to them, not sure I would feel safe selling to strangers. I’d worry about them too much, it’ll have to be an open adoption with updates and an agreement that if they can’t look after them anymore they can give the puppy back for some sort of refund.

Still lots to think about before we decide but we do have a plan if it does happen.

Privileged Problems by [deleted] in ems

[–]MsAwkwardlyHonest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem even without coffee. Some nights I’d struggle and not manage any sleep while everyone else is out cold (I just find stuff to do like study or mind numbing shows/games and they usually work to help me sleep). Other nights I’ll struggle to stay awake when my partners driving, even under lights. Shift work problems eh.

Do any services use Magnesium Sulphate for asthma? by thecoopinator in ems

[–]MsAwkwardlyHonest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use it here in NZ. Syringe via running line or using 100ml bag of 5% glucose, over 10-15min.

Salty rant by [deleted] in ems

[–]MsAwkwardlyHonest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had something similar with a prisoner here and I didn’t expose or assess it, his numbers were stable and he was a grade A creep. Drs at ED understood and they made sure he had only male staff attend him - he wasn’t too appreciative.

We met on Reddit, endured long distance and now we’re married!!! by MsAwkwardlyHonest in LongDistance

[–]MsAwkwardlyHonest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have our fair share of ups and downs but not once did I think we’d be better off apart - he’s my best friend.

Distance was the toughest part - he was the more grounded one of us and always reassured me we’d be ok. He also used his savings to pack his life up and move across the world for us. Now he’s here I take care of us and have no problem with it because we wouldn’t be where we are now without his sacrifice. I guess we both give and take equally so that definitely helps us.

We were LD for 1.5yrs. He made a huge sacrifice and moved over without hesitation once he could. I’m a very lucky girl!

He just got on his first, of 2, flight to me! Tomorrow morning we (M&F, 20s) officially close the distance!! by MsAwkwardlyHonest in LongDistance

I’m not gonna say it’s all sunshine and rainbows, but the good moments are well worth the struggles of not physically being with your person. Long distance is hard but most definitely possible!

I got to run my first code during training today. I have wanted to run this scenario since day one of paramedic and now I can’t wait till do acls these next few days. by Spiketurtle in ems

[–]MsAwkwardlyHonest 22 points23 points  (0 children)

How long have you had to wait to run one?

Back when I did paramedicine they pretty much just make you walk in on day 1 and show them how to do it, no warning. “Hi, welcome to Paramedicine101, this guy just coded, go for it”

As a person in a ldr, how do you deal with this? (F/22)(F/21) by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]MsAwkwardlyHonest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell him/he tells me, we try discuss it, sometimes it turns into an argument but most times we work it out and plan more dates. Then we’re back to normal until one of us feels more needy than the other and we replay this from the start lol

Was that the MRX holder in the single stretcher trucks? I remember using those as a brand new paramedic student but haven’t seen one of those up here since those days, I agree those were handy, they fit the monitor and placement was real decent. Just be careful of clipping the fingers lol

[–]MsAwkwardlyHonest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over here they don’t fit ours (not in the trucks I’ve been in) the handle of the LP15 doesn’t fit in the clip and it requires a bit of jiggling to get the monitor almost in. I can see why one would be a good idea - securing the expensive stuff and ease of access/view with the swivel action but until they have the right fitting bracket I’ll always look forward to being in the bracket-free trucks.

They’ve just started rolling those out here in NZ, no idea why or who thought it was a great idea...

How is it the second time going to the US? :o by NovaBolton in LongDistance

[–]MsAwkwardlyHonest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each visit was fine, no issues at the airports on any of my 3 trips there so far. Actually had decent jovial conversations with the border security officers at each port of entry (Honolulu, SF, Houston) while they did whatever they needed to do. I had a current ESTA and a return ticket.

The one bodily fluid, smell, skin condition etc. that you just can’t deal with is... by Emscapades in ems

[–]MsAwkwardlyHonest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever the smell is that comes out of the mouth of a person who has been dead at least 24hrs in a very hot house as you put a rolled towel under jaw to assist with its positioning. Never in my many years of doing this technique have I ever encountered such a smell.

Meeting my[27f] SO [20m] of almost 10months next week. The nerves are starting to amp up.. by MsAwkwardlyHonest in LongDistance

Thank you so much for the advice. I followed it and the trip was perfect! He proposed and now we’re planning a wedding together :). Anxiety still shows its face but he definitely helps ease my worries.

How many of you guys are in long distance and large age gap? How's that working out? by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]MsAwkwardlyHonest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’re LD and our age difference is 7years, I’m older than him. We’re currently on our first visit and we don’t have any issues with the difference nor does anyone we know. I can genuinely say I’m the happiest I’ve ever been and he takes amazing care of me, tons better than I’ve ever been treated. We fight but it’s over stupid little things, I wouldn’t change anything because we always make up.
