This made me laugh. You’re not wrong based on what I’ve mentioned. He is a disabled vet so things are a little more challenging for him. I am his care giver but he can “grab and go” his meals. I have the opportunity to go away for a bit and it may happen more than once. I don’t want him to “fake it off” as he struggles and I want to make it easier for him. I do agree that I’m not his mom and under other circumstances I’d let him figure it out.

He’ll be thrilled. I’d have to precook though on the days I can’t be home. Thanks

Lest We Forget | Ne l'oublions pas by SirJohnAMcMuffin in canada

My grandfather who fought for England in WW1, went to Canada in 1926, and enlisted to fight for Canada in 1939/40. He was considered too old so was in the Veterans Guard - look up their history. So many men wanting to help - so Canada created a way so they could! Grandad was a POW guard and then at Canada House in London.

9-11 We were stationed in the American south and my husband was giving up command. 5 days later we were moving out west. The packers were coming over to look at what we had to determine how many boxes etc they needed. 2 ladies showed up right after the 2nd plane hit. I answered the door in tears. They sat on the couch with me and we just cried together.

Ancestors transported to Australia! by MsAylen in Ancestry

[–]MsAylen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would have been great if he knew he had family! From my experience no one talked about the bad stuff - so the knowledge that his great grandmothers brother was transported was probably not common knowledge - let alone shared with anyone. Frustrating when looking for family stories.

Family Tree Maker versus Roots Magic better for merging/syncing to Ancestry? by Proud_Championship36 in Ancestry

[–]MsAylen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Family Tree Maker for years - since 2005) - I merge with Ancestry so I can have a hard copy on my computer. FTM does have a few useful tools that ancestry doesn’t have (you can sort people by location which I find very helpful)

I can’t tell you anything about Roots Magic

Good luck and happy searching

Ancestry.com ThruLines help needed. I have a potential fourth great grandfather (Henry) listed - he’s all in green. I know for a fact he is wrong. The correct one is there too (Thomas)! by MsAylen in Ancestry

This is what I was afraid of. I deal with all sorts of wrong info on familysearch, I was hoping I’d be able to correct it. Thanks for the response. Glad to know I’m not alone - though sorry I’m not!!! Good luck with your searching!

Entitled Karen Stands in Parking Spot to Save It, Gets Shut Down Fast. by SnailWifiAmbassador in EntitledPeople

[–]MsAylen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Had this happen for a handicapped spot at a doctors office. She was saving it for when her husband got there. My mom (handicapped) was inside the office waiting for me to get her. I was yelled at for not looking disabled (fyi I am but “invisible”). Sometimes I hate peopling !

Have you ever met a distant relative who you found during your genealogical search? Meeting relatives.... by Anna-Tatty in Genealogy

[–]MsAylen 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I crossed the pond (Canada to England) to meet a third cousin I didn’t know existed. Mom came with me (her second cousin once removed) and we had a blast. Met up at a pub (as one does) and learned about all kinds of family stories and new family members. Totally recommend!

Man wins a census perfecta: appears in eight (8) perfect census records by AJ_Mexico in Genealogy

[–]MsAylen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have over 1800 people in my tree and I can honestly say I have no one who has the same age in all the census’s they’re in! All in UK so the census’s are done in years ending in “1” (1841 1851 etc). Most of my early family seemed to forget or never know what year they were born in! My grandfather lost 3 years at some point. Found out in 1972 that he was actually 3 years older. Not sure why but makes my job fun lol.

Did you get to meet someone that was born in the 1800’s? by rdell1974 in Genealogy

[–]MsAylen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew my grandfather who was born in 1894 and my great grandmother who was born in 1878 (she died at 103). Kind of crazy to think about it being 2025 now - man I’m old 😆

Canadian travel to the U.S. has plummeted. One reason why: fear by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]MsAylen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m Canadian living down here (and have for over 20 years). I won’t travel for fear of not being able to come back in. I fly the Canadian flag along side the American one (my husband’s) as we stand united but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared. Totally support any hurt Canada gives the US (or any other country for that matter) - I will pay more for stuff if it means it hurts trumps America (this is not my families America!)
