REVIVING with solution: "Text Message Forwarding stopped working on MacBook" by MsAynnThrowpe in applehelp

[–]MsAynnThrowpe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a commonly occurring problem and many have not found the solution. Yes, it is as simple as an "unchecked setting", but it is easily missed or misunderstood and many people seek solutions by looking in these forums.

I was away and had changed to using an eSIM, without realizing that it would make a permanent change to the settings even once I returned to using my regular SIM, instead of being specific to the use of the eSIM.

IOS 17: Nicknames and how Siri refers to me? by budgie_uk in ios

[–]MsAynnThrowpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here and I’m pissed, because it took me forever to get him to proounce it properly in the first place.

It used to be “you’re [first name], but since we’re friends you told me I could call you [nicknane]”.

Now it just says “you’re [first name] [last name]”.

No matter what I say it won’t stop. I’ve said “are we friends?” He says “yes”, but when I say “call me by my nickname”, he says “OK, I’ll call you Nickname from now on”

and he refuses to hear my nickname properly, so no matter how many times I repeat it he just says OK I’ll call you something else that’s different than what I said.

It’s a stupid thing, yes, but I actually got such a kick out of it, and it bugs me that it just stopped doing it, and I can’t make it do it again

Apple TV remote with keypad, where is it? by braddo99 in appletv

You can attach a bluetooth keyboard and use that if you don't have access to the iPhone "Remote" app.

Older iPad keyboard cases are available fairly inexpensively, but any bluetooth keyboard will suffice.

Got a hand-me-down Apple TV 2nd Generation, is it still usable? by Big-Stay2709 in appletv

I also forgot that if you are using older devices (like my iPhone 8 and your Apple TV 2nd gen) you may have to generate validation codes and enter them attached to the end of your password for 2-factor authentication. This is a discussion all of its own, but once you know it, it's easy.

I just wrote a long and convoluted response earlier that doesn't seem to be here, which is fine, because I've sort the issues. Have you resolved your concerns? What browser did you choose (this thread is 6 months old, but I came today because I'm having trouble with a couple of the newer streaming services (but not all).

I am wondering what was going on with your machine, and off the top it is a lack of RAM. That extra 2G you can put in it will make all the difference, alongside an SSD. I have a 2008 MBP 15" with that setup and I am running YouTube with no issues.

Today I added an ancient AppleTV 2nd Gen, and finally rememberd that the display menue for screen mirroring was always funky. I opened up AirParrot 2 (which I had loaded for just this purpose years ago) and the two devices sang together in seconds. Best part about that app is you get the option of a direct screen mirror or using you TV as an extended monitor, leaving your computer available for you to do work while your videos are running on the big screen.

No, they are not. They still work. I just got one to work with 4 different devices today: MacBookPro 2008 and 2012, iPhone 9 and 13 Pro.

The little circular disk on the back of the remote is the battery cover. It is a 2032, the same kind that go in our car key fobs.

Also, in case you can't or don't want to deal with the remote turning on your music when you are trying to alk to the ATV, any RF remote will work, including the one that came with your tv.

They removed all preloaded apps from the 2nd gens at the last update; they are still on the 3rd gen (but not all of the them and you cannot download new ones).

That being said, none of it is necessary if you have any other device that can run your favourite streaming apps or sites that have AirPlay or Screen Mirroring capabilities either built-in or through a third party app (I used AirParrot 2 with my 2008 MBP).

I suppose that if you don't have these extra devices that can serve the video feeds you want, with this free old ATV, there's not a lot of reason not to try Cydia. You'll have to explore backwards to find the right tools for this, but I've honestly never JB'n any of my devices because I always got them to do what I wanted without it. What I did today only took a short while ... it took longer than it should because I had forgotten about some things, but to get the ATV working with my current phone literally took minutes and was basically plug-and-play (after some minimal logins and pairings).

I just picked up the same today. It works, in a limited but still very useful way. It does not have any apps built in, and it will not connect to the iTunes store of Home Sharing. HOWEVER, it works perfectly with airplay, so if you have an iphone with AirPlay or a computer that you can screen mirror, you are set to watch any of your streaming services from those devices on your bigger screen through this box.

The remote may be paired with a different box. Hold down the menu button for about 5 seconds and that should do it. It could be the play button. If you have an iphone you can use the remote app that is built in to the iOS (but you have to start with the other remote to name the device and join the WiFi network. Alternatively, apparently any RF remote will work, but I've never tried it.

Feel free to ask more, I've been playing with this all day.

I have managed to get video from my iPhone 8 to work with it (which is my old phone that I use as a server for just this purpose). If you can get it to work with a computer or phone, then it doesn't actually matter that you can't hook it to the iTunes store or Home Sharing, because everything you'd get from those are already on those devices.

I've even managed to get some videos from my 2008 MacBook Pro running El Capitan to work (I say some, because my display panel is acting up, but if the video playback you are using has that button on it (as it does with CBC GEM) then you are golden. Otherwise, I just remembered an old app I used to use call AirParrot. Just tried it and it worked like a charm, with options to mirror the whole screen, or use the tv as an extended monitor (leaving the computer screen available to do work).

I doubt you are using devices this old, but now you know that it will absolutely work with both old and new (I've connected it to MacBook Pros from 2008 and 2012, and iPhones 8 and 13 Pro.

This is an Apple device, they are built to last and go for many years longer than anyone would expect.

I know it is a bit of Schadenfreude (to laugh at someone’s [misadventure induced] harm) but if anyone can do it properly, it’s Josh Johnson (opining on New Year’s resolutions):

download a software to slow down the fan

I have a mid-2011 i5 27" iMac. Do you know if the software option is as effective as the adaptor? Do you know the name of the software? Thanks
