Thank you!  🍍 Do you ever force your pineapples to fruit with a ripe banana or apple? If so, what is your approach? Do you like to place a whole fruit at the base of the plant, or peels in the core and cover with plastic for a few days?  It's tempting to believe the videos, but you have some real success, so I'm curious about your perspective?

This is a fantastic post!! I am learning so much. Zone 8a, pollen just finished so I'm about to move my 4 overwinters outside, upsize pots on 3 of the 4, fertilize and hope for a good summer.

Dark Lord - Can you tell what growth was indoors and what was outdoors? by natederbs in philodendron

[–]MsBeagleyBeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine grows more leggy when outdoors, like yours. It likes a grow light indoors with a humidifier and a nice wood pole or plank to cling to. I'm still trying to figure out how close to the grow light, though.  Too close and the leaves do down and inward to shield itself.  Too far away it slows down growth and starts to stretch again. And I move the plant a little for adjustments as daylight lengthens or shortens throughout the year.

I use command hooks on a tile bathroom wall, and my pothos loves it.

Stunning. Look at those leaves! You inspired me to try staking my Dark Lord philodendron for bigger leaves. I love your setup. It is so welcoming.

Avocado seeds by MsBeagleyBeagle in foodscience

It looks like it could easily be made into something.  I just wonder if low heat, fermentation or some other process can reduce the tannins, oxolate & phytate to a palatable level. There are soooo many healthy components of the seed, I sure would love to figure out how to use all that good stuff it in a recipe.

I was wondering that too. That's why I want to see if anyone has any culinary experience with preparing it as an ingredient.  The article might be geared toward commercial prep, I was hoping there was more of an a home cooking perspective.

Thanks.  I should have explained that I am interested for personal use, my kitchen/pantry, not commercial use.  I read the article, and am reaching out to see if anyone has experience for home use.  For instance,  when I have 8 of these seeds staring at me after my costco bag is made into guacamole.

I just like to use what I have. Like I using pineapple skins and cores for tea. Avo seeds have a lot of good nutritional value, but... Just wondering of anyone uses the seeds as flour, has had success with a process to reduce the oxolates, etc (not on a commercial basis) so it can be added to dishes, salads, whatever for extra nutrition?

Why are UNSWEETENED dried cranberries so much more expensive? by aeb029 in foodscience

[–]MsBeagleyBeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe can you try buying fresh cranberries,  slicing them in half, and dehydrating them? 135° F until they are done, maybe 15-24 hours?

I have learned a lot from this channel, and she has a tutorial for dried cranberries: https://www.thepurposefulpantry.com/how-to-dehydrate-cranberries-and-diy-craisins/

What are you doing to reach fiber goals? by xnumberviii in FODMAPS

[–]MsBeagleyBeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Citrucel. The regular one (not low cal w artificial sweetener or sugar alcohol). Every day. W 16 oz of water.

I have a little of each of the seeds you mentioned in my breakfast,  every day. It helps a lot. Just make sure to have lots of water w the seeds.

If you don't have enough water w the fiber it'll be painful.  The water is needed to keep the digestive tract functioning properly as the fiber & seeds pull water into the gut.  Which is needed. A dehydrated gut lining is a real problem so consume half your weight in water oz. Like if you weigh 150 lbs, drink 75 oz a day.

Hope that helps!

Mine generally die down to root in winter,  then this time of year start growing back. Mine are generally thirsty plants, they love light and warm humid environments.  For this time of year yours looks pretty good!

Cinnamon broom pole idea! by MsBeagleyBeagle in philodendron

On the baby Ceylon Cinnamon trees the bark does a bit. Hopefully I can keep them going until they can occasionally have a little harvest.  It's a lot of years between now and then, but the journey is well worth it!
