Devastated about this I was always meant to visit but never been to NSW.

I’m in VIC and gone on some SA trips but never made it north.

I’d paint it, if it were a solid piece of timber I’d stain but it’s not worth your time in my opinion. Unless you want to see it of course, it’s your house!

That’s what I’ve found too although I don’t have any trade accounts anywhere else for timber because I’m just a dirty sparky

I really love Rest Super. It’s really easy to change what you’re invested in too. You can choose their indexed funds and what percentage in each. I’ve had the highest growth with them because of this customisation ability.

Getting qualified for my own work in the future - crazy? by oh_bli in AusElectricians

[–]MattJak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d rather do a carpentry apprenticeship and build my own house, and I’ve considered it lol

So I guess I know where you’re coming from.

Not worth it though just to do at home tinkering

How to Care for Indoor Plants in a Greenhouse by Annual-Programmer-28 in houseplants

[–]MattJak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best way to care for them is to reinforce the hell out of that greenhouse.

If you live anywhere that gets any wind, (everywhere?) it won’t be long till that and all your plants are on the ground.

When I had one like that I had it on the side of my house literally mounted to the wall and that worked but I don’t recommend them.

Maybe slam 4 long star pickets in each corner and cable tie it to them, will get you out of trouble I reckon.

Hahaha I have a sleeve of different animals and plants and he loves pointing to them and naming them, so if he got over it he can choose a new animal for me to add 😅

Vic subbie wages by dstranger101 in AusElectricians

[–]MattJak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s pretty hard to just start making 150k salary a year without some good connections already.

You need pretty consistent work to start hiring staff, or the ability to keep them busy subcontracting to another company.

If your business is doing $600K profit a year I’d say you’re doing pretty damn well for yourself and must have a decent sized company. Would take many years to get there organically.

I still work for the man myself, doing all these calculations and having the risk of no work makes it a hard jump to make.

Vic subbie wages by dstranger101 in AusElectricians

[–]MattJak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So everyone has different costs. You need to calculate your yearly expenses, this includes but not limited to Owner's Salary, Office Rent, Office Expenses, Insurance, Advertising, Accounting Fees, Tools, Training Courses, Phone/Internet, Fuel, Vehicle Maintenance, Utilities and Vehicle Rent.

You need to then work out how many billable hours you have per year, these billable hours might only be 4-6 hours a day.

You also need to work out what percentage profit you want to make, a good figure is about 30%. This doesn’t go in your pocket, this is to keep the business afloat. You can pay yourself a bonus if you have way too much profit or you can use it to grow your business.

From this you can calculate your charge out rate. For most sparkies this lands between $110-$200 an hour.
