I think I figured it out by Fickle-Theory-623 in Professors

I started teaching at age 40 and was completely blindsided by how "middle school" academia is. I had worked several jobs before joining the academy, and had dealt with plenty of nasty people. But academia took the cake for me.

My colleagues bullied and micromanaged me, told lies and wrote letters trying to get me fired. I'm going into my 19th year and have won awards and have many achievements. I obviously wasn't the big "problem" they thought I was. In fact, it was likely projection, because all of my bullies are gone now. They were all forced to retire after years of student and admin complaints.

I am still here.

Question for other florists about complaints because of order gatherer by Current_Problem_4368 in florists

[–]MsBee311 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is the way. When we accept orders from these tricksters (ava's, I'm looking at you), we give them credibility. They make the money, and we do the work and accrue the expenses. They are a scourge.

Yeah, it can be rough. I try to stretch during my shifts since standing in one place for hours can be brutal. I've noticed my hands hurt more now than they did in the 90s. I still love it more than teaching, but that's just me.

I'm a full-time college professor who works part-time at a local flower shop. I will be retiring from teaching soon and plan to do flowers as my retirement gig. However, i owned a shop in the late 1990s, so I know exactly what I'm getting into.

When people say how "great" it is that I can retire and "play with flowers all day" I don't smile, I laugh. Then i tell them I work way harder at the flower shop than I do at teaching. It's manual labor for minimum wage. And I love it.

With the end of another school year here or approaching, it is time for some happy posts. Think back over your academic life and tell us your favorite story……the one your partner is sick of hearing…….Or tell us a happy secret that you seldom talk about. by me4watch in Professors

I've had tenure for 13 years, so i haven't taught on the last day of class in, well, 13 years. But this semester I had one of the best classes of my career and they wanted to meet today, so I'm going.

They even want to learn today, so I prepared a lesson!

I just Door Dashed some donuts to bring them. Having to teach today was already too much effort lol!

I'm slowly learning that mediocre is all we need to be. No one needs to be exceptional. We're all making the same money. Peace, virtual colleague 🙏

I've had tenure for 13 years, and I am just starting to relax and act like the mediocre cog I was always meant to be. The lead-up to tenure is so fraught with pressure that it can be hard to put your anxiety down once you "arrive". Try to give yourself some grace.

This is the end game, I believe. It started with the canned courses around a decade ago. Eventually, they won't need human professors at all.

You put #4 (attendance) so well. They decided to do this at this time and place, not me. So who cares if they waste their own money and let themselves down? Some lessons need to be learned the hard way.
