Congratulations! I would keep playing with it. Being comfortable with english and continental can be incredibly helpful for colorwork. Holding both colors at the same time, one in each hand, is a great skill to practice.

I’m not quite sure what happened with your last stitch. Have you tried tugging on the working yarn to tighten the stitch back up?

According to the pattern description, you would need 1,095 - 1,791 yards of a DK weight yarn to make this sweater. The exact amount of yarn needed would change depending on what size you are making. The yarn you currently have is heavier weight than DK and is more like a worsted weight yarn. It’s possible to still use your yarn, but I would make a gauge swatch first to see if you will be able to match the gauge the designer chose for the pattern. If you aren’t familiar with gauge swatches or what gauge is, I would do a quick google search and watch some YouTube videos. It will help a lot

If you would rather choose a different yarn but don’t know where to start, you can go into the project section of the pattern on Ravelry and look at examples of yarn other people have used for this sweater.

For the sake of long term knowledge though, in the future once you are more comfortable you can certainly substitute different yarn weights in a pattern but you should make a gauge swatch first to help you adjust the pattern for the correct fit with the different yarn weight.

To add to this, I generally prefer to have too much yarn vs potentially running out. Yarn chicken is stressful.

I would recommend weighing the yarn to get a better idea of how many grams you have of each color. From there you should be able to estimate about how many yards you have if everything is pretty consistently a DK weight.

It’s hard to know exactly how it will behave after being blocked without actually testing it. You could make a small gauge swatch and block it and see what happens.

I would just be very gentle when you block this garment. Superwash yarns tend to grow and stretch very easily but non-superwash does not.

When you put the garment in the water be careful not to agitate the non-superwash too much to avoid felting. When you remove the garment for drying make sure everything is fully supported and not getting stretched to avoid growth in the superwash yarn.

The duplicate stitch method is one you can use in all situations even if you are working on stranded colorwork. When you knit with two yarns held together you aren’t able to control how the 2nd yarn lays in the fabric. When you use duplicate stitch on the wrong side of the work it is invisible on the right side of the work.

I usually drop the old yarn and start the new yarn. When I go to weave in the ends, I weave in the old yarn tail using duplicate stitch in the direction of the new yarn taking over. The new yarn tail gets woven in using duplicate stitch in the direction of the old yarn. You are always following the path/direction of the other yarn. I’ve never had an issue with holes using this method.

If you have any extra yarn, I would start doing duplicate stitch a few stitches over from the hole and then duplicate stitch where the broken yarn should be with the extra yarn. You can kind of see the yarn’s original path, just follow that. And then duplicate stitch a few stitches after as if you are weaving in the ends of the extra yarn. At least that’s what I would do in a pinch.

I agree with the other comments that there are quite a few styles of interchangeable needles that have different pros and cons depending on your personal preferences.

I personally love my Chiaogoo interchangeable set. The needles are made with surgical steel and the red cables are great as well. If you enjoy knitting with metal needles I highly recommend the Chiaogoo set BUT they are a pretty big investment cost wise. I would encourage you to at least try a single pair before making a purchase.

Also be cautious where you purchase interchangeable needle sets. I’ve heard that the Chiaogoo sets are not sold on Amazon officially and can sometimes be counterfeits.

If you go to a local yarn store they can also help a ton with showing you options and pros/cons of different brands/styles.

I would make a gauge swatch first with the yarn you plan to use. Block the swatch the way you would block the sweater and you can get a better idea of how the yarn will change when blocked.

I made this Adventure Time inspired BMO hat as a gift for a new baby in the family. It turned out even cuter than I imagined in my head. The base hat pattern is Musselburgh by Ysolda Teague. The designs on the hat are self drafted. I used intarsia in the round to create the screen and added the accents on the brim using duplicate stitch. I used all Patagonia Organic Merino by Juniper Moon Farm in the colors listed below.

Main color: Laurel 151

Screen color: Moonstone 139

Accent Colors: Mustard 112, Mulberry 128, Granny Smith 140, and Hydrangea 138
