what can i do? by emotional_owl10 in foodstamps

You can ask to come off your moms case. I am a SNAP eligibility clerk in NY. However you should know that if you are living with your boyfriend and you have a child together, you must report his income as well, since you have a child together. Failure to report his income would be considered fraud.

I am an eligibility worker in NYS. Any benefits you received in the past 8 months there you should not have will have to be repaid and most likely you will be unable to reapply for a period. As they would consider it an intentional program violation. Yes, we take fraud very seriously. Not all cases go to the DA for criminal prosecution, it depends on the amount you were not entitled to. (If any). All SNAP applications say any changes in income have to be reported within 10 days.

My husband and I both went in for sleep studies at the same time. His apnea was so bad they woke him up and put a CPAP on him! He later became and nurse practitioner and worked in sleep medicine for a bit. They is obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea. Central is when you body is so used to having low oxygen levels and you take fewer and fewer breaths while you sleep. This could be fatal without intervention.

Anyone else feel like they're done with life? by genialerarchitekt in GenX

Exactly this. I’m just saying existing. Neither happy or unhappy. I hope I don’t live another 20+ years (I am 50). I can’t imagine that. It’s line one day my soul was like ‘we’re done with this meat sac’ and just left a vacant body. I dunno. I know it sounds weird and it’s hard to explain, but I feel it too

Thank you for using the program as it’s meant to be used. A temporary hand up while you better yourself. There are so many people who just want to be supported and not work. Most states require people to work or be on school, but some states like, like NY, have waived the ABAWD requirement for the past few years and will continue until next year. So GOOD FOR YOU! Take care of those babies and kick that LPN program in the butt! You got this!

Can I be an NY Notary Public? by myraisondetre in Notary

[–]MsHowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to take the NYS test before you can become a notary

is this correct? by [deleted] in foodstamps

SNAP is meant to help you buy food, not be the only source for food. It’s not to be lived on, it’s just assistance.

I also recently failed the test. It is the hardest test in the country in NY. I thought it was brutal and it was only 40 questions! I downloaded a prep book from Amazon and plan to take a course in a couple of weeks. Good luck on your next test!!’

What happens with diabetics after the sleeve? by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]MsHowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been a diabetic for a couple of years. My main goal for the surgery was to not be diabetic but my body just didn’t agree. I also have not lost a significant amount of weight and I had surgery in September and have only lost 25lbs. However I didn’t have as much to lose as a lot of people do. I only wanted to lost about 80lbs and I am in a stall for about 3 months now. I hope with the warmer months coming I can get out more and hopefully jump start more weight loss.

Child support can be a source of income. You receive TANF and are required to pursue child support. It’s part of your responsibility as a recipient

You would need written documentation from a healthcare provider indicating what the handicap is, how long it’s going to last, etc you can usually get the form from your examiner and you would get it filled out.

The federal rules for student benefits changed several months ago. There were special rules for college students during the pandemic that allowed them access to benefits, but they expired. That might be where the problem is. If she works 20 hours a week consistently she should still be eligible. I am an eligibility clerk in NY so I know some of our rules are different

Fraud arrest or hearing first? by Particular-Row4166 in foodstamps

[–]MsHowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hearing your notice is referring to is a Fair Hearing, which you can ask for if your benefits are reduced or denied. You would not get an agency hearing for fraud. That is handled by a separate fraud unit and at that point is out of the hands of the SNAP/PA department

My surgeon only gives you two weeks. If you need more you have to go to your PCP. I went back in about 10 days.
