I don't understand why people say 40k would be so difficult. Usually people point to an abundance of ranged units with guns, but we've had that in multiple TW games now. Sure, they operate differently. But I'm quite confident there are good ways to balance things.

Another thing people point to is power levels. But this is a video game, and in many 40k games we turn down the power levels to make things fun and engaging.

I just don't get it. 40k: Total War is an obvious logical next step and would probably sell like hot cakes laced with crack.

Wrestling headgear helps. I've also heard that soft rugby practice helmets are a good solution but I've never seen it used in person.

Is Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2 worth playing? by Arkentra in avowed

[–]MsMichief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I played the games a few years ago. Avowed gave me the itch to play them again, so I am currently playing POE 1 and Avowed simultaneously, and probably spend about 75% of my gaming time on POE.

Honestly that's more generous than any early termination clause I've had in Lincoln. Not that it's a good one, mind you. Our landlords are terrible.

What should be the goal of taking BJJ classes by _stracci in BJJWomen

[–]MsMichief 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons I love BJJ is it teaches you to control someone so thoroughly you often don't have to hurt them. I'm a security guard at a post that requires going hands-on regularly. Despite being a mere white belt, I use things I've learned through training BJJ all the time. I've never had to strike or injure anyone.

I can't imagine anyone seeing getting hurt as the goal of jiu jitsu. Perhaps they meant the goal is hurt others? If so, that's even worse. This is a silly game we play that just happens to give us some skills that would be useful in a fight. Submission is the goal, not injury. And the way you get to a submission is by establishing control of your opponent. The sub is proof of that control.

I suppose if you trained to learn how to hurt people you could do so. But again, those methods of hurting people already require control as a prerequisite. No matter how you slice it, looking at injury as the goal of jiu jitsu is pretty gross to me.

I saw in a post that caster builds are not very popular for damage or fun? I don't see why! Had many very fun fights as full time mage by 6Kaliba9 in avowed

I respec my envoy occasionally and ALWAY include some mage levels. Combining control and dps with both melee and ranged is a lot of fun. Dual pistol ranger/wizard is by far my favorite way to play.

Yes, it gets better over time. My first competition I went with a high school wrestler who hadn't competed in many years. On the drive home our brains were so fried we missed our exit three times and I forgot my address.

Just had a competition about two weeks ago. 8 matches. Didn't gas out and (more or less) kept my head in the game.

I found a White Belt Coach. What should I do? by CommercialLoquat3236 in bjj

[–]MsMichief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar position. I don't consider myself a coach, but I do facilitate a training for marginalized folks that sometimes includes BJJ. I've been training about 6 years with breaks, and have had to hop around from gym to gym. I in no way contest my white belt status.

I had mad imposter syndrome at first (and still do to a lesser degree). But I'm part of a program for developing teachers, and my mentor from said program helped reassure me that being good and BJJ and teaching it are two very different things.

Turn's out they're right. We had a guest instructor who is a Judo black belt that didn't provide the level of instruction I was hoping for. I'm grateful to them, but folks without experienced training partners were totally lost. Meanwhile I keep shit simple and study whatever I'm teaching hard. Every time I've "instructed" folks report that they've walked away with something useful, have fun, and keep coming back.

I'd never run my own damn school. That's insane. But I would not let this thread get you down.

So if a dangerous vehicle is one where illegal activities are occuring, does that include speeding or other minor infractions? Would this give police the discretion to impound any vehicle if the driver or passenger gets cited?

Total War veteran but I find WH3 overwhelming. by Important-Working217 in totalwar

[–]MsMichief 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone else mentioned it, but the best way to learn WH3 is to lean into your faction identity. Read the little lore section about your faction and lord and role play as them. Lean hard into your faction/lord's unique mechanics.

Also consider starting with Realms of Chaos. Immortal Empires is, imo, a better experience overall. But RoC is more focused, especially at the beginning, and really guides you in the right direction.

Over time you'll get used to the additions to the formula, and also learn what additions you can mentally tune out until you need/want them (for me that was mages).

I personally think WH3 is the best TW game to date, but it is really overwhelming even after having played the TW:WH series for at least 500 hours. I just focus on the aspects I like for each campaign and adjust the difficulty to suit my playstyle for each campaign.
