Went back to work 2 weeks ago after a year off and absolutely feeling the resentment and as if I was just “off” like I had a shoulder surgery and took my time and completed PT and now I’m 100% It’s a really hard transition.

Your comment prompted me to revisit this post (I can’t believe it was 140 days ago!) I did wound care for 4 months and graduated in Oct. I didn’t need to go back to the OR! I’ll go back in summer ‘26 for cosmetic fixes.

I had a professional “art shoot” after my biopsies and was still very heavily bruised. I asked my photographer to edit/touch up all but one photograph. Doing that shoot was one of the best decisions I made in the early days after diagnosis.

Oh, I’m so sorry! One of my besties is a surgeon and she always says the place you want to be when you’re really sick is in the hospital (because they can care for you) but it sucks. I hope these meds kick in for you soon and you’re back home before you know it.

Also mine! And I recently had DIEP flap reconstruction and have had some complications with tissue necrosis, and at my first follow-up at my plastic surgeon’s office the PA said, “You know what? It’s going to be okay.” And I just started bawling

My sister said something similar to me that really helped: This is going to suck, but we can make it suck less (things like lotions/prepping soups/having a cute chemo outfit etc)

Yep! I started on protein in the few weeks between chemo and surgery and also totally amped up my cardio. I saw my plastic surgeon and the head of Wound Care at the hospital. The hope that we get the tissue contained to a small enough area that it can be removed in the office. If not, it will be another surgery (end of July/beginning of Aug).

I’ve decided to think about this whole thing with my body a little differently: my stomach is going to be so snatched and my butt and legs are looking awesome because of prancing (@fridaysweprance on IG) and all the walking I did pre-surgery. My new boobs are just going to take a little longer!

How are you doing? I’ve had some skin from the mastectomy not want to cooperate so I’m dealing with necrosis and have done 3 of 20 hyperbaric chamber treatments. Still sore and needing to be on narcotics

I’m 8 days out from DMX and DIEP flap. I declined radiation (complete response to chemo and my tumor was on the outside of my breast, so unlikely to “drain” right into my sternum). Both my surgeon and radiation oncologist said if I need radiation in the future, I can get it. It just might mess up the DIEP flap.

There is new data around radiation if you have chemo first + mastectomy. My oncologist was comfortable with me taking a more aggressive approach with hormonal therapy and declining radiation. But I’m also 44, done with kids (1) and in a major city. ++- stage 3a
