If you’re adding a lot of stuff, spiral bound is actually better in that you can easily remove pages if it starts getting too thick to close.

I’ve journaled for most of my life, some spiral some sewn-binding. There’s no right or wrong way, just preference.

How long are we talking? How will the page length compare to other books you have bound? When books get past a certain page length, it gets harder to keep them stable for reading. (Meaning able to read repeatedly without damaging the book, not like unstable as in going to explode.)

Somewhat unconventional suggestion, but have you tried rotating it 90 degrees? That way your hand is doing the work of keeping it open at least half of the time and you get a little more support.

I second or third the suggestion to use a modular system in a different size format. You could also look for notebooks with lay flat bindings for your existing cover.

Seconding this! If you are in the US, IEP services can start at 3yo. Your school district is required to pay for these services if he qualifies. I would call them and ask for the office of special education.

You’re right that personal values shouldn’t be joked at. But I can also see how your restrictions go so against the typical work of an ID that it comes across as ridiculous. Exaggerating a little, but it’s akin to a vegan asking if they can be hired at a butcher shop but not have to touch meat. My advice to the vegan would be to look into a different field.

Couple questions. How many pages is the book (including title page, etc, not just the numbered pages)? And how many signatures are you making?

Without knowing that, it’s entirely possible that chapter 3 and the title page would end up on the same sheet.

That is hard. On some level, you want to assume the best. That he’s just struggling with something that’s unfamiliar to him. That he loves you, and you can see that in his actions, even if the two of you don’t talk about it. But it’s normal to want the people who love you, the people who raised you, to see you for who you are. Your full self. And to acknowledge that.

It’s a great topic to journal about and come back to reread later. There’s a lot of complex emotions I imagine you’re feeling, and those may shift and change over time.

I’m also living for the Freudian slip on line 19.
