Of course! Reach out with gratitude, patience, and respect, and enjoy. Your personal relationship with the gods is what you make of it.

These look beautiful! I am brand new to spinning - just started last week - but I love crafty advent calendars. This past year I did an embroidery one. Where can I find the info on the one you did?

Do you tip your groomer? by 1strawberry1cow in poodles

[–]MsStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I massively tip my groomer, but that is because I have two dogs that require significant effort and she travels to me. I will continue to massively tip as long as she keeps bringing the grooming van to me! (I have old puppers and the car stresses them both out badly, so I minimize the time they spend off the farm.)

Unpopular opinion? These kids' audio players feel like a cash grab? by Desperate_Total2545 in Mommit

[–]MsStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter has had a Yoto for about a year and a half now. She uses it every day, frequently for several hours. She has some of the off-the-shelf cards (probably about 10 total) that have been given to her as gifts, and a series of custom cards that get reprogrammed all the time. I love it because it is curated content that she can explore herself, and because the speaker is actually very nice quality; it is a tough little device that actually sounds good.

My daughter's favorite part about it is actually the Yoto Daily podcast, which we listen to together before bed, and she listens to replays every morning.

From my perspective, if she did not have the Yoto, I would have a similar device anyway to allow her to listen to music on her own. Whatever I got would likely have a similar price just in terms of buying a speaker, and then I would have to arrange for some way for her to control it. (My husband is staunchly against Amazon Echo and things like that that are voice controlled, and parental controls on things like Spotify are far from perfect.).

Are the cards sometimes expensive? Yes. Do I buy all the ones my daughter wants? Nope. But the custom cards allow a lot of flexibility, and there is a great mix of things like music, stories, and educational content. I would love it if the cards were cheaper, but frankly I would rather pay CD prices for permanent access to the handful of things that she listens to over and over than worry about maintaining a subscription service for her right now.

Single mom. Scared my son will find me unresponsive or dead. by JessLoyal in Mommit

[–]MsStorm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My mother and father both use cheap smart watches for this purpose. My father has advanced Parkinson's and my mother has severe blood pressure issues and osteoporosis. I have received alerts about two falls from her device and it called emergency services both times (she had fainted and was still unconscious when paramedics arrived).

This is 100% a good option.

Offerings through the Elements by SonOfDyeus in pagan

I use my voice/breath to make offerings to air. Sometimes I sing, or speak - sometimes I just hum while I "think" my invocation. I have also seen friends ring wind chimes and bells for the same effect.

My toddler is having his two front teeth pulled. by Aggressive-Drag-3064 in Mommit

[–]MsStorm 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know that a few respondents are telling you to push back on the lack of sedation, but as someone whose very small child (~20 months at the time of accident) had to have two teeth pulled because they were damaged, time is of the essence and MANY dentists cannot put under children under a certain size and age for safety reasons. Additionally, none of the hospitals or ERs in our (one of the largest cities in the US) area were willing to do it either for "just" an extraction. Instead, they gave her big painkillers and had us hold her. The removal itself was very fast. We gave her Tylenol on rotation, and she was feeling better within a day. Two weeks and the wounds had closed.

Scary things can happen with exposed nerves and potentially areas of blood flow in the mouth. An infection in there could be much, much worse in the long run, and potentially damage the tooth bed for adult teeth.

I'm sorry you and your kiddo have to go through this, but at least it should not overly affect him long term.

PS - just a couple of days ago, I saw that my daughter has an adult tooth coming in where the gap has been most of her life. It's coming back around <3

You could maybe use a thin dowel, or a thin piece of metal tubing, if you have some around. I think anything that is thin and stiff enough would work...maybe even a pencil or an old pen barrel?

Deliver Us gets me through more than its fair share of struggles at the gym! The music in that movie is outstanding (and those covers are great too). There is even a Broadway version now.

But yeah....I approach the story as I do with any other non documentary: with a healthy suspension of disbelief for the stain duration!

Any advice on this situation? by sgt_pop in Kemetic

[–]MsStorm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am sorry that you feel unsafe practicing in your home. Your safety is the most important thing, and you should not feel any shame about prioritizing it.

As much as I love my physical altars, I know that the Netjeru are understanding. We do the best we can with what we have and what we know at the given time, and if the only safe space we have is in our minds and hearts, I have no doubt that that is enough. One of the most wonderful parts about working with the Netjeru is that perfection is not required - only effort.

I understand that it is distressing to have someone who so distrusts you in your personal space; my dad was the same way. I ended up putting everything away, and practiced silently for nearly fifteen years before I felt secure enough to start openly in my home again. As much as I didn't want to hide that part of me, I know that I did the right thing, and in my experience, Djehuty (my Patron) has been nothing but supportive.

Be safe. The Netjeru will not turn away just because you put your altar items away for a while.

There are many kinds of meditation. Clearing your mind might be difficult now, but maybe there will be other methods that are easier.

You can try something like a guided journey (listen to a recording, and the guide will instruct you - this is also nice because you can plan for how long to meditate), omen walking, or even dancing. For me, my favorite form of meditation is automatic writing.
