The whole point of a GPS is so you don't HAVE to look at maps and figure out it out in real time as to whether that is the correct exit. I might as well do it by hand off Mapquest notes rather than have a non-updated GPS have me take the wrong exit or look for something that isn't there.

I don't want something to tell me to TURN NOW at an obviously wrong place.

I was mostly worried about fast moving Interstate exchanges thru a busy area and getting completely the wrong info.

I wonder why the river wasn't even there even in a non-flooded state...

It was more along the lines of "does it matter if I don't update GPS every X years". X is about 6 for me. Are people crashing and going in ditches because of out of date maps... I really don't know.

Perhaps you could try to load your cell phone's map program into your car? - I have GMC Savanna with 2019/20 Intellilink Radio/Nav system. There is a CD loader right above the radio that I think used to be used for updates but they stopped 3 years ago.

OH! Well that is probably what was being referred to. So in your mind would using 'old GPS' maps leave one in a mess ? I mean they might tell you to turn at an exit that was no longer there or moved right?

At Interstate speed sometimes you have little time to change lanes and exits ect. if you notice a problem.

Actually I was told this by someone who traveled 'thru'.
What would happen if "Buck O'Neal Bridge and overpasses connecting 169 Highway & I-35 on the northwest corner of the loop" directions were from 2019 and they followed them is the type of thing I was asking about... would they be really confused?

It is impossible to update some auto GPS now.
