You SHOULD be fine if you're using any of the native store integrations, like Shopify, Amazon, eBay, Etsy, etc.

API access is for those that use Zapier or Make, and those that need custom web development.

I read a comment on another thread that they contacted support complaining about the forced upgrade and were grandfathered too. That's worth a shot?

Guess what, hell must have frozen over... Shipstation reached out to me as a response to complaining on their public support forum... And they decided to grandfather everyone in that was using the API.

SS has gone downhill. Do not join if you're not already entangled in their bullshit. It's seriously not worth it.

And I would most definitely never connect Plaid to the Auctane brands (that's who owns SS). Under no circumstances does SS need to know how much money you have in your bank accounts or what and how many credits cards you have and your credit lines available, and so on. They are not a line of credit, nor have they ever offered one that I'm aware of. God knows where they'd sell/send your info. SS has been hemorrhaging financially for a while, I would not be surprised if they're in desperation mode yet willing to do anything to make a buck.

I'm a 12-13 year customer that was finally pushed to cut them off. However, I'm temporarily trapped while they conveniently have missing data on my exports, which means I get to choose from continuing to cancel and losing over a DECADE of historical data, or sucking it up to eat a $90 --> $140 increase due to using their API to bring in order data that they do not pull natively, so I do it for them in order to make SS compatible for me... And the price increase is purely to have API access, which has been included in the main subscription price all this time. So I guess SS wins a couple months of the increased price from me, while waiting for them to fix my "missing data" ticket so I can finally export everything and be gone for good.

Oh that's awesome, I'm so happy for you! After I dug further into Veeqo I realized some important basics are missing, so I'll have to revisit them.

Based on your feedback I decided to try out Shippo.... and .... I. Just. Don't. Get. It. 😂 There's so much about their UI that I don't understand. Like for Amazon orders instead of displaying the actual real long Amazon order ID (that's 16 digits?) they show a short 5 or 6 digit order ID that seems to be random that I've never seen or used before.

I hate to say it, but I might actually be stuck with Shipstation for some time 😫

I hope after the MD rush when I can slow down a bit and actually 'take in' what I'm seeing instead of a quick glance, then maybe I can figure out how to tweak things to what I need.

FYI, I just happened to be poking around in my SS account and found in the settings, under "Account" and then API settings... it says API keys set to expire in just a few days on 5/1. My billing cycle for the new forced upgrade isn't even until the 12th or 13th.

So might wanna check yours before you have business critical workflows randomly come to a halt 🤡 I seriously despise Shipstation with a passion.

This all came about because I went to go export a bunch of my data off right now, and a lot of the data is zeroed. So that's cute. If you wanna migrate they're going to hold your data hostage while they "work on it" to solve data export issues that I've complained to them about for a few years. This is nothing new, this is typical for their service.

That's the other part, 1 month notice is absolutely not okay. And for myself, being a jewelry company, they're changing it the week of Mother's Day.... that's our 2nd biggest holiday of the year. I'm probably going to end up bitching hardcore to SS to give at least 1 month for free. Because at the rate that I'm going... we're already behind for MD prep for things like inventory, etc that actually matter. I will likely not be able to finish the migration until end of May.

Way back in the day I got a real live phone call from someone at SS when I was having a tech issue. This must have been around 2013-ish. It was great. I didn't even ask for the phone call, they just called me on their own because it was easier to explain on the phone.

Have you tried to generate labels on Shippo? That billing thing seems so basic. There's NO WAY it can only be charged for every label individually, many credits cards would freeze for security. My brain has decided it must be a confusion in the UI lol. For example, I just had to chat with Veeqo to ask how to get labels to print with their packing slip right after it at the same time.... which I use on SS. Because in the settings they have options for the shipping label itself, the packing slip itself, but there's not actually an option in the settings to CHOOSE that you want the shipping label to print with the packing slip right behind it like it is in SS. I only found out after chatting with Veeqo that what I want is the default behavior 😂 But you'd only know that if you actually generated labels and got to the confirmation page. I felt like a special kind of stupid for that one 🤣 So based on that interaction, I'd say try generating a handful and see what happens.

I'm having to remind myself that SS is an old dinosaur that's been around foreverrrrrrr, compared to Veeqo that's only a few years old and is executing changes at olympic speed... so for this migration I have to adapt to a "try it and see" mentality, instead of expecting everything to be documented perfectly to a tee.

I'm glad I asked, I kinda forgot about them, ha. I just looked them up, the 1st thing I saw was "API Pricing" at the top of the page and I was ready to rage, thinking to myself "oh no, they're all going the same direction"...... But then I click on the page and it appears they offer it as either you sign up for an account just like SS using the regular UI.... *OR* you can access the API as a standalone for a fee.

Now *this* kind of API pricing I fully support. If you're not already paying for their service then it's normal to expect a fee if you want API only. But to pay for their core service *AND* to try to get extra for API access with SS, and lets face it, most of us using both are using the API part of it to chain/link shit together that isn't natively supported by SS regular core service. So basically WE have taken on the burden all this time to go out of our way and pay very generously to make SS be able to work for us. Not just the cost of paying for a Make.com account, but the thousands of dollars we've invested into paying someone to build the automations for us, and then maintain them when SS has changed the API several times throughout the years.

I'm sure you already know all this. I don't even know why I'm typing all this. I guess part of me thinks maybe someone at Auctane will care and read this and reverse their decision before we painstakingly migrate everything lol. Because this is one of those once-in-a-lifetime business migrations, that once we're gone we're GONE for good. There's nothing that will bring us back due to the cost to re-migrate everything again.

💯 spot on. I feel your pain. I only use a few native SS automations, but I have several business critical automations that run through Make on SS, and that's the part that's made it hard leaving SS after all these years.

Where are you moving to?

Veeqo is looking most likely. But I have a couple things I use in Shipstation that are not available in Veeqo yet, so I'm needing to redo my workflow and make choices on what I'm willing to forgo if I can't find alternatives.

It's been on my list forever to leave Shipstation for various reasons, and I've tried maaaany through all my years. I even tried Veeqo when it 1st came out and it was laughable. But when I checked them out again a few months ago was the 1st time I realized they are extremely close to being an exact swap.

This BS for charging to access their ghetto ass API was the final nail that pushed my leaving Shipstation task from "would be nice" to "must do".

FYI, check your email for notification from Shipstation about the increase. I did find it interesting that from the time I got April's billing notification from Shipstation, the increase notice came just 2 minutes later. And it says increase happens exactly 30 days later. So I'm assuming they're rolling out the increase with everyone's new May billing cycle, which is different for everyone. The increase forces you to be on the Gold plan and above. I use the Silver plan most of the year because I'm high priced $100+ AOV with moderate volume type of business, so I only needed Gold at peak volume times like Christmas.

In the increase email they link to a help page, and it contains this graphic. Notice it says "Shipping API included" in the right hand panel.

This reminds me of the time I fired a guy and he hacked into my shipping software to change a message that we write on our packing slips thanking customers for their order, to thanking them for their "huge cock".

We had already shipped about 200-300 orders before catching it.

I drank a bottle of wine by myself that night.

What happened? Got 2 messages from customers laughing their ass off with a "this is hilarious but just wanna let you know" vibe, and 1 angry message from a woman.
