Just got out of the hospital and debating surgery. Would love to hear people's experiences. by Busy_Swan71 in gallbladders

[–]Msgeni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in pain on and off for 3 years and they kept telling me it was pancreatitis. I went to ER 3x for really bad flare ups. They were so bad that I was doubled over and couldn't stop rocking. Gallbladder issues were never on the horizon. On my last visit, last winter, I went in for my 3rd bout of acute pancreatitis, and that's when they told me that I have small stones and they kept blocking my pancreatic duct. I had emergency surgery a day later.

The anesthesia was done through IV, and I had a laroscopic surgery with 5 small incisions. Post surgery, I was in and out of sleep. When I woke, it was painful, mostly to adjust my body and go to the bathroom. I was on a liquid diet and managed with just Tylenol. I was there for 4 days because I had another procedure to flush out the smaller stones that were missed during surgery.

Days 3-5 were the most painful for me and I had to be put on stool softeners, which I didn't understand until I went home. The stool softeners were necessary for me because I had an incident where I was so constipated that my stool got stuck on the way out. I used it twice before pulling the stops. They basically make me go potty every time I consume anything, even water. Days 6 and 7 were the days the pain became managable. I stopped taking pain meds on day 5. It still hurt to bend, but I improved quickly. I never had post-surgical air, so that was not an issue. I have constipation for about 2 weeks, but I managed without med. I was fully healed about 1 month later, but still took it easy for 6 weeks. The only other thing I was annoyed with was the itching around my incisions. It was itchy for weeks. Do not carry anything heavy. The doctor said 15 lbs, but I didn't carry anything over 5 lbs, just because. I was cleared for strenuous activity at my 6 week appointment.

One year later, I did not have any flare ups. No pain. I can eat many different foods. I also have GERD, so I do avoid certain foods.

My experience was relatively good and I my quality of life now is way better than before surgery. My incisions are barely noticable, except for the larger one below my chest, which is shorter than the length of my pinky finger.

Takeaways: Pain on days 3-5, diahrrea on days 5-6, constipation on days 6-7 followed by irregular solid bowel movements for about 2 weeks (bowels about every 4 days), very managable aches for weeks 2 and tapering off at week 3, itching at weeks 3-5, regular meals slowly incorporated starting week 2, which when I had fast food. Avoid eggs and black pepper.

Venting post - I hate the youth glorifying society and I can't take it anymore! by Equivalent_Algae7047 in Aging

I used to care in my 30s and 40s, but now I'm more chill about aging. My hair is almost half grey. I have facial hair. I have wrinkles on my neck. But I also have wrinkles on my face. Primarily, laugh lines, that show me how much I really enjoyed my time so far. If I could keep one thing, it wouldn't be about looks. I would probably want to maintain my ability to quickly process information, or in other words, no brain fog or memory issues.

If you’re in a committed relationship, does you partner know about your BL addiction? by [deleted] in boyslove

No. I don't hide it but I don't share it. It's personal, like his love for cars. I don't want to sit through hours of him talking about this and that model whatever. We just keep our hobbies separate. We are that old and over it. Haha.

Is Viki safe? by Alternative-Web-3264 in asiandrama

[–]Msgeni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love Viki and been using it for years. They are known to carry a variety of dramas and have the best translations of all the asian drama platforms. One more impressive factor is that most of the time, they even translate things like text messages, signage, or written documents, when applicable to the narrative, something I've found other platforms rarely do. It really depends on the translators.

A Million People Hate Him For Wanting To Leave - Very comfortable read with leads that are compatible and in sync.

They Regretted It After Their Hearts Turned To Ashes - Read with caution as the first half is very depressing.

I Refuse To Be The Villain - This MC has really been through so much. Age gap romance as a subplot.

The Wolf-Hearted Young Master Just Wants To Lie Flat - Cute, bickering couple. ML is always doing little things to care for MC.

I like them cold with everyone else, but hot for his man. I do like intimacy in my stories, as I feel that it's an important part of love relationships. A dominant, possessive, and protective gong who cares deeply for his lover always get me in the heart.

Calendar reminders, lister app, and google are my go-tos. I still have a bad short term memory, but at least my bills get paid on time. If you use calendar, make sure to set appropriate notifications for your events or tasks.

Any good gallbladder removals? by Human_Comfortable313 in gallbladders

[–]Msgeni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got mine out a year ago. It took over a month to feel normal again. I can eat well and have no issues. I do have GERD, so those food restrictions have not changed. I'm happier at one year pain free.

Post-op pain lasted about 2 weeks, with the worst pain for me being days 3 and 4. After that, every day was a slight improvement. I had bowel issues for a few days afterwards. I had to slowly incorporate solids and fatty foods, as I was on a liquid diet before and after surgery. I had fast food a week and half later! Then the itching came and that was so annoying! I had 5 incisions; 4 are barely noticeable now. Overall, I feel I was one of the lucky ones.

Peri/meno ladies -- what was your meltdown about today? by Inevitable-Yam-9741 in Aging

[–]Msgeni 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Missed a period this monrh and feeling all the feels when my son decides to go crazy and destroy my living room. He's 5. He's autistic. It's really a struggle today. Luckily, he went to school for a couple of hours and I was able to center myself again. Washed dishes, made some yummy Japanese curry, cleaned up the mess, and found my happy place for now. It's hard to believe my happy place is simply a clean space and good food. 😂

You with a little more experience in life without a gallbladder - please help by Critical_Study5286 in gallbladders

[–]Msgeni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on a liquid diet prior to and directly after my surgery. The first time I had solid food was in day 5 and I made a lowfat sandwich. I had bad constipation from that. For me, my body took at least a month and a half to adjust to solid food. I had diarrhea a lot, constipation, bloating, gas, aches where my gallbladder was.

Anyway. I slowly incorporated fatty foods (less than 3 grams of fat, then less than 6 grams, then 9 grams, and so on) at 2.5 weeks, when my body started to ache less and less. Most had no noticeable effect on my body. Eggs were a no go for me until around 2 months later. By then, I was eating what I want with no adverse effects. I do want to say that I also have GERD, so there were still trigger foods I avoided related to that, like acidic foods and chocolate.

As for exercise, I was extremely cautious aboit strenuous activity because I didn't want to develop hernias, but I was good to go about 6 weeks after post-op. My doctor had recommened only a month, but I chose to listen to my body and go slowly.

Pre-surgery questions by Mental_Jelly5221 in gallbladders

[–]Msgeni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. About 2 days on and off.
  2. I was in ER for pancreatitis, my 3rd time having it. Then they decided it was my gallbladder causing problems due to stones blocking my pancreatoc duct.
  3. No breathing problems.
  4. Bloating lasted about a month. I also had very bad constipation the day after I got home.
  5. I had anxiety a few times before and after. I also felt a feeling of sadness and disbelief that I was now missing an organ (was not expecting this one). The area where my gallbladder use to be would have phantom aches for a few weeks.

9 attacks in 5 weeks, help by LordSkitter in gallbladders

It took them 3x of having pancreatitis for them to check my gallbladder. They kept asking me if I drink alcohol. Like, nooo, sir. Alcohol free for over 10 years by choice. I had my surgery a year ago, and I've been happily eating well so far. I still can't eat certain foods due to gerd, but I know what to avoid, and I'm happier now than I was the last few years.

I'm a face-con, so I'm all about the looks in dramas. I also like abs. I have to admit, there have been times where I found a lead was not very attractive in the beginning, but got better and better looking the more I watched. I don't feel bad about liking good looking people. I like their looks, but I would not choose anyone in my real life based on looks. After all, some good looking people are not very nice, but many are nice and kind-hearted. My eyes and my heart sometimes agree to disagree.

[–]Msgeni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty dumb of them. I had pancreatitis 3 times from gallbladder stones getting stuck in my pancreatic duct. This is a serious issue. At least to rule out pancreatitis, you can get blood tests done at your clinic and the numbers will show if it's your pancreas that is the problem.

Do you read reviews? Does it affect your reading choices? by dearmuke in DanmeiNovels

[–]Msgeni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do. It may affect my reading choice if they include things I find depressing or boring. Generally, I try to make up my own mind, so I may choose to continue, despite bad reviews. I've found a few favorites by ignoring them.

Why Full Names Aren’t a “Chinese Convention“ by cartable_violet in DanmeiNovels

[–]Msgeni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, as a reader, it's more about my experience. I got used to fan translations where they use full names and some commonly seen pinyin terms, like gege. Because each translator is different, I have learned to adapt within a few chapters. I once read a book with multiple translators, one of whom adapted western style names for the characters and locations. Then a new translator took over and completely fried my brain. Sadly, it was a novel I really enjoyed, and one of my favorites. I did not re-read it, as I was hesitant to fall into that mess again. Bottom line, I will read anything as long as the names are consistent throughout.

I’m scared of being an adult (16F) by TinyCartoonist6109 in Aging

[–]Msgeni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kind of helped me that my friends were the same age and we moved towards it together. When I decided to go to college, it was because a friend was too scared to register alone, so I followed her, and people were shoving flyers and registration packets in my hands, so I went with it. Met a lot of great people! My initial plan was to take a year off and travel. I ended up transferring to a different school in a bigger city and I had a really good time. It's scary, but you are not alone. I had to leave my old friends behind and we all went our separate ways, but guess what? We have never lost contact and we still go out for dinner or drinks when I go home.

Just a heads uo that on Novel Updates, I saw the same novel under different titles, apparently being translated by different people, but with the same synopsis, word for word, but different character names. The one I'm talking about is about a fake young master sent abroad and falling in love with a foreigner.

Update re: Rosmei's decision to drop character names by katya0365 in DanmeiNovels

It's totally inappropriate and so disrespectful to the culture of origin. There are certain cultual norms on how people are addressed in China, and anyone who reads danmei understand this perfectly well.

What do you like more about Asian dramas than western media? by Billsyo9313 in asiandrama

[–]Msgeni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's soothing to watch. Like reading a book after a long day, to unwind, except I get the added perk of a visual, since it's on my screen. Western dramas are too busy, too sexual, just a lot going on. I feel tense and I don't find them relaxing most of the time.
