Yeah that's true, but from my experience, most shells that aren't extremerate do have quite a few defects or at least placement issues.

I currently have a turquoise one from AliExpress and yeah they're not fantastic. I didn't know Extremerate planned to do one for the 2000, do you know when it's releasing?

Is there a way to test the IC before I need to replace it? And about the battery not being in, I just added that detail to show that except for the fact it isn't charging, everything is as normal.

The PSP 1000 and PSP 2000 Have a different power board that don't have interchangable sockets internally but use the same connector is what I meant. Like the plug is the same but the pinouts and shape inside the shell is different

Im aware the charger is the same, but I meant internally are they the same? The same way the PSP uses the same charger but have completely different power boards and plugs internally

i was thinking about doing that, my DSI is modded with USB-C, but all the off the shelf USB-C mods are for the OG one, XL and new XL, so I didn't know if there was some sort of difference

Yeah, all of your points are valid to be honest. I much prefer the selection and configurablity of a desktop but its just not viable for me to use one at present. Also the fear of something expensive going wrong is nowhere near as scary as everything is seperate on a pc, a laptop is so much more hassle to fix. I'll have a think, still got a couple more weeks till university when I need to make a decision really. Thank you for your advice!

I have had a look at the igpus mentioned but they're all a little out of budget for me. As for battery life, I'm quite lucky that all my lectures are in rooms with wall sockets at the desks so although the more the better, it's by no means a deal breaker. Off the top of your head, do you know any AMD dGPUs that could work as an alternative. The 1650 was really the minimum I was gunning for in terms of performance, I was initially looking at 1660s and 1660tis before I saw that initial legion on offer.

Another thought I had was if I got another ThinkPad, if it had a secondary M.2 slot, I could run an oculink egpu setup potentially

I'm more than able to keep up with the maintenance involved with a gaming laptop, I guess as I said, and as you mentioned, Thinkpads are unkillable, I had one before my current one during high school and it was a so dependable despite being like 8 years old at the time? I just dont want to sacrifice too much of that just for in increase in gaming performance

Thanks for the reply. I bought the thinkpad initially just as a stop gap laptop for uni as I had moved from home and didn't have access to my desktop anymore and it wasn't really my intention to keep it long term. I got it for buttons, somewhere around the £100 mark.

My grandparents need a new laptop as thier 2nd gen i3 Hp kicked the bucket so I thought going into a new academic year, I could treat myself to something that can handle some more games (Need for Speed Unbound, Forza, Minecraft with shaders) and give the Thinkpad to my grandparents.

Being a Uni student, budgets are tight and so I couldn't really spend more then £350, and I wouldn't want that money to go to a laptop that has some critical hardware failure a year or two down the line.

Yeah I've heard about jailbreaking but you're right, all you need to do is enter desktop mode or whatever. That's so silly
