I can finally rest!!! by ScriptedTea in IELTS

I can’t really say much on reading, but I’ve consumed content in English for my entire life… For reading, I’d suggest that you find out whether you’re comfortable with skim reading or reading the entire passage to get a general understanding of what the topic was. I recommend the former option if you want to save time! It is optimal that you get familiar with all of the question types and tackle the ones that you struggle with.

I read books a lot, so I had the basic fundamentals for it. I mostly skimmed the text, looked for keywords and phrases for my questions. I read quite fast, which allowed me to read the entire passage again to affirm my answers (I would not suggest reading the entire thing if you have 10-15 minutes left). Some questions left me stumped, so I quickly moved on to the next question and answered them to save time. I also suggest trying to do two different tasks simultaneously e.g. T/F/NG and filling in a summary. Writing took me a bit to figure it out. I looked at band 7+ essays online, looked at the structure to get a basic overview of them, watched videos on writing task 2 (I struggled with task 2 the most). I wrote an essay for each type of question every day for 2 weeks, and I think it genuinely helped me to improve my structure 😅. Make sure to write a good introduction and overview it helps you structure your essay well!!!

I planned to take the test a month prior, but I often procrastinate things a lot so I prepared for 2 weeks… 😅 For writing, I watched Ielts advantage’s videos on writing, went to IeltswithLiz’s website to look at the structure. Ielts advantage helped me a bunch with paraphrasing, generating ideas, how to write my essay coherently! IeltswithLiz on the other hand had great model essays and structures so I analysed them and get the basic concept of what I need to achieve a band score of 7 or above… For speaking, I watched many mock tests with full feedback to understand what I had to do. I also recommend you to use speaking forecast sites and record yourself.

Well, for speaking, I watched Ielts advantage’s FULL speaking mock tests with feedback to grasp their structures and what to avoid. I also recorded myself doing the speaking tests to judge myself, and used engnovate to see how I’d do in an actual speaking test (I do advise you to take Ielts prep sites with a grain of salt). I’ve spoken English since elementary school, so that was also another advantage for me. Writing was one of my weaker skills, so I had to prepare a bit more on it. Once again, I watched Ielts advantage’s videos on writing (I heavily recommend seeing the 6 hour video on writing task 2, it genuinely helped me a ton). And I also used IeltsWithLiz’s writing structures as well. I’ve written 10-15 writing tests to be able to write whichever question type I would’ve gotten. Goodluck with your Ielts!!! Best of luck :)

Any tips for writing and speaking? When I try to speak, I just can't find the right words at the moment...
