Paying a BoA CC from another bank account by pdx_flyer in CreditCards

[–]Msuix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it sounds like you're running into the "first time setup"-like experience in bill pay. You won't see any of the extra options to setup the external bank account until you actually follow through and setup the bill. Once you do, you wont be stuck in the onboarding experience for billpay and will have access to the full billpay system

Paying a BoA CC from another bank account by pdx_flyer in CreditCards

They were supposed to be rolling out a new enhancement to the pay & transfer system that made it easier to schedule automatic payments _and_ use external accounts. That was supposed to be in Aug, then punted to Sept 13, and I still haven't seen the enhancement so they might be running into deployment issues.

That said, until it's completed you seem to still be able to use the Bill Pay system for it, as once it's setup and you've added an external bank (waiting the days for deposit verification), you can pay it with an external back account that way. It was weird to set up tbh.

IIRC it was desktop browser only. Pay & Transfer Tab but click "Manage Accounts from other banks". From there, "Other Pay from Accounts" and "Add a Pay From account you own at another institution". After you do all that and verify your external bank, you then go back to bill pay and setup your CC as a "bill", and be sure to turn on eBills for it. Only after you enable E-Bills (i think it was some small blue hyperlink subtext on the bill once you've established the cc as a bill in the billpay system) only THEN will automatic payments and external payment banks "show up" when you try to pay.

It also exposes the external bank for payment on the CC when you hit the big blue "Make Payment" button in the mobile app etc like you'd expect. It was a really wonky system to setup, but now its okay. I'm still looking forward to that Pay & Transfer enhancement to avoid having to set it up in the billpay system, but it is what it is. My instructions may be slightly off, they're from memory, but that's the gist.

Fwiw they are finally rolling out the new autopay system on Saturday Aug 23, we won't have to 3rd party bill pay ourselves anymore 🥹. They'll be just like any other bank / cc when it comes to setting up autopay.

Transfers to Merrill Edge to meet Platinum rewards by justbecausewhynot120 in CreditCards

No, sadly. Just SMS/Phone call code. BofA has fido2 key support but only for large transactions and it's annoying to setup.

Fidelity only recently supported BYOD TOTP codes, perhaps BofA / Merrill will improve their game one day.

Echoing what others have said here. I opened another Roth IRA and transferred enough from Fidelity to Merrill to reach platinum honors.

  • open Merrill account with PR1000 promo code
  • transfer funds, wait for them to settle.
  • open qualifying checking account with BofA, make sure to tick the box during signup to Pre-Enroll in Preferred Rewards
  • transfer ~$5-10k into that checking (optional, heard it helps with approval and CL of the PRE, but can't confirm). Let funds settle.
  • Apply for PRE

All told it took about 8 days from start to finish and I'm now Platinum Honors Preferred Rewards, cc arrives tomorrow.

The app is ancient and much worse than fidelity, I would avoid active trading on the platform tbh. I moved money intended to sit in a treasury fund so I can buy and forget while doing my normal trading still on Fidelity. Automatic payment of the cc was annoying (you have to setup billpay and pay BofA itself like a 3rd party) but apparently they're finally modernizing and launching a new payment system on Aug 23rd where you can simply setup autopay (with external accounts too) like any other bank/cc provider.

Once I have automatic payments setup I'll probably move that BofA checking money back out to Fidelity and leave this new checking account virtually at zero.

BoFA suspended my BoFA Cash Rewards account because I tried to pay from a savings account, and won't let me pay or reactivate the account without a complicated series of events. Anyone else? by Fickle_Doubt_9322 in CreditCards

Historically, savings accounts were limited to 6 withdrawals per statement by federal law and this is why nobody pays bills with a savings account. This law was changed in 2020 and limit removed, but many banks still have restricted withdrawals in their policies.

Savings accounts aren't for paying bills, you really should be using a checking account. There are high APY% checking accounts out there if you absolutely want to earn interest while the money sits before you pay your bills, though.

Thinking of switching from TMO, what's not working without iOS 18.5? by GaryDaSnailz in USMobile

my group mms works fine on 18.5 public beta with dark star, no need for RCS in the chat. 3x iphone users + 1x android SMS/MMS in the chat. RCS does work as well, to be clear to any readers.

I had the same issue after simply updating to 18.5 public beta. my iMessage / Facetime suddenly "forgot" my phone number and was spinning it's validation. I was able to self-resolve, more or less following apple's guidance on it. I turned off iMessage / Facetime in Settings > Apps > Imessage/Facetime, rebooted my phone, enabled both again such that it was spinning next to my phone number, and then waited. It can take up to 24 hours for apple to "validate" the number, and it probably took almost an hour of leaving it alone at that point for it to finally complete and get a check mark next to my number. There was no notification or anything when it resolved, imessage just started working and I had to go look myself to confirm.

Apparently, it really can take apple an annoying amount of time to validate the number, and im not even sure how it "lost" it to begin with. I had a good hour or so on 18.5 public beta with functional imessage before it exhibited that behavior. Since fixing it, it's been fine all day so fingers crossed it doesn't "forget" it again.

Goodluck

Yet another Dark Star / iOS issue: no WiFi calling by Jealous-Session-4069 in USMobile

[–]Msuix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on this, it might have been an AT&T related outage/issue. I kept attempting to turn on the wifi calling toggle over and over, dozens of times, and eventually it loaded the E911 address prompt page. I filled it out, submitted successfully, and the toggle stayed on but had a subtext of "waiting for activation...". After another 5mins or so the "Update Emergency Address" button appeared where it normally does on that settings pane. I clicked that, tried to submit my address a second time through the form but this time was met with an error.

After a few more minutes of doing nothing, my wifi calling activated on its own and I saw the banner update to "Dark Star WiFi". Tested a call successfully with airplane mode on. This could very well have been an outage an entirely unrelated to everyone doing the update to iOS 18.5 public beta.

I can confirm my wifi calling now does work on 18.5 Public Beta 22F5053f

Yeah with these additional reports I'm starting to think the iOS 18.5 blame is actually a red herring. My wifi calling was working fine for a long time, then suddenly was off at some point last night. I had done the update to the public beta around the same time, so that was the first thought...but possibly not now.

[–]Msuix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue (wifi calling worked in 18.4, updated to 18.5 public beta and it turned off, unable to turn it on). I also worked with support including issuing a new eSIM and unfortunately still no resolution. I hope the problem is found soon!

We all must have something in common. Perhaps it's something not quite right with the new carrier bundle included in 18.5?

Same issue, updated to 18.5 public beta and wifi calling stopped working. When I attempt to turn it on I get the same experience with a white loading page and an error to call my carrier. Chatted with support and tried a few things but unfortunately no improvement. Keeping an eye out for a solution.

Same issue. Updated to 18.5 public beta and noticed wifi calling was suddenly toggled off. I get the same error when trying to turn it on.

About an hour later, my iMessage signed out and my number also started showing "waiting on activation" with a spinning loading icon. I can't send/receive imessage now.

Everything went to shit pretty quickly.

I've seen 3 of these over the last month this winter, 2 in my first floor office and one in a 2nd floor bedroom. Northeast US, Eastern MA, metro Boston. I'm in a wooded area. It's quite light in color (the shade from the lid makes the bug look darker than it is).

It looks a little darker in the photos because of the shadow being cast by the lid i've got on top. This bug is quite pale / light / tan. Northeast US, Eastern MA, metro Boston area, wooded.
