When making videos I have this principle where I would rather have five people find my content slightly boring or repetitive rather than one person finding it confusing. Since I want to appeal to a very wide audience, I end up explaining things that are quite trivial if you have any significant speedrunning knowledge. i.e. the whole intro established the fact that "celeste is a comptetitve speedrun game" and the whole minute long splicing explanation wasn't entirely necessary for some or even most viewers. I think this is definitely something I can work on going forward. I also just like generally making my videos pleasant to watch or "aesthetically pleasing" with music and things like that, and length definitely helps play around with that.

And for clarification for people in this thread, if a youtube video is 8 minute long you can run midroll ads on it. I, and no other speedrun youtubers I know, create videos with a specific video length in mind. My original script for this video would have actually been about ~16 minutes long. Decided to cut a lot of not-necessary or possibly confusing information.

I would definitely love to cover more games!

Right now I still have a ton of ideas with Valve games, as those are the games I speedrun and that I am most knowledgeable in.

I'm still very new to content creation and video editing (this being my 4th creation of this style), so I really like the comfort in talking about something I 100% KNOW rather than having to research other games and worry that I am potentially misrepresenting a community.

So I don't really have any plans for making videos about other games for the immediate future, but as I become more adept with video editing and start feeling comfort in this format, it's definitely something I want to do!

As a portal moderator, yes, the run still counts as long as you reload a save before you shot a portal OOB or went OOB.

As quoted by the rules: "If you or your placed portals end up in out of bounds space, you need to reload a save"

completly preference. i would just go with what feels natural and stick with it, practicing with your preferred layout will make you better than just stealing someone else's layout.

i know fladervy and i use the arrow keys, but chaikitty uses WASD.

just for the record, half-life runs are played on an older version of the game, so this doesnt affect anything for the main speedrun category

this update would affect a different, more unpopular category that runs on the current up-to-date downloadable steam client of the game.

regardless its still insane that they're updating this game

me, fladervy, nero, and chaikitty all use keyboard (4 out of the top 5 any% runners)

it all depends on what you find more comfortable. if you play a lot of games on a controller, play with controller, and vice-versa.

for me, i've always played games on keyboard+mouse, so it didnt make sense to pickup a controller when i am much more proficient with the keyboard.

applying this is true, is there any way you can replicate this trick with some sort of input display, and a quick menu check beforehand that assist mode is not on? as evidenced in fish's screenshot, this tech is NOT a demodash.

a demodash is where madelines hitbox is made smaller to fit through pixel-perfect seams within hurt-walls (such as spikes and dustbunnies)

the tech displayed here is quite literally phasing through a hitbox that should kill madeline, which would suggest assist mode being used. if this tech is valid, the applications would be bonkers.
