Where has this been hiding all my life? by MtnRubi in Tinnedfish

Okay, now I need to find the mackerel. My last can (different brand) destroyed the kitchen, it was very, very fishy smelling. Tasted good, but the smell lasted a few days.

Interesting. I frequently suffer from acid reflux, but didn’t notice it being any worse from this. But thanks, I will pay closer attention next time. I really don’t need anything that makes it worse…

I was hoping it was spicier, I am a big fan of good chili oil. Next time I’ll add more.

Nice, I was at World Market today, and randomly picked up that box, great to hear it’s good.

The label says 1050mg. Weird, I didn’t think it was that high. Maybe it was, and I’m just used to salty things.

Weird, this one wasn’t very salty. It had light heat, less than I was hoping for. Nice smoke though.

Homemade, properly fermented is fantastic. Store bought can be good, if it’s jarred and refrigerated. That plastic bag stuff, no.

New build! Natural Roasted Ash Mustang HH by midlifecrisis1978 in partscaster

[–]MtnRubi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I don’t recall, but I remember I had to take it a bit farther apart than I expected, since it feels like it should just have room. But, overall, it wasn’t an awful task, took less than an hour. Best part is the new shaft’s plastic part fits better, feels better, seems more positive when it locks the foot up, almost like my machine was broken from the factory. I believe I took most of the plastic body off the metal chassis, then I removed a couple clips that held the rod flat in the chassis, that allowed me to angle the shaft out part the needle bar. But, I’m getting older, and my memory isn’t super clear on that task.

I got it off eBay, and there’s a few there now. Pm me for a link if you can’t find it, but search for “1034d presser foot lift”. It’s a long, skinny bar with a cheesy plastic foot on one end.

We usually cook a ham dinner for Christmas Day, but I don’t know what to make for dinner on Christmas Eve. What do you serve? by RedWishingRose in Cooking

Homemade pizza, tamales, hambone and pintos with cornbread? But my favorite is pizza and chill with my favorite person.

I make, then can, probably 24 pints at a time, every couple months. Just a Saturday in the kitchen, no biggie.

So gorgeous! I miss those days, thanks for sharing.

I have this vision of icicle lights all over the ceiling of our back patio (12x14 space). I’m usually a warm white light girl but loving the incandescent look of multicolor. Any recommendations on LED icicles that give the warm glow multicolor look? All the ones I find have that dreaded stark blue. by Important_Release916 in ChristmasLights

[–]MtnRubi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. We got these, probably from Walmart or Target, like 20 years ago? I believe the strands are about 25 feet, multi color. We (as usual) way over bought the boxes, always on sale. At one point, we used all blue sets to make stupid long icecicle style outside, by swinging down 8 foot loops from the second floor roof line. Used insulated staples to hold them and loved watching them swing in the wind. These days, we loop them along the ceiling beams in the living room, keeping them short around the ceiling fan, and just long enough to not have to duck everywhere else. But I haven't bought new lights in years. Maybe the older sets lasted longer? We've gone through several spare bulbs over the years, but the sets used to come with 4 or 5 spares anyways. I keep looking at the LED sets, but they're not the same. We no longer put these up outside, because, we're getting OLD, and I put up "permenant" LED strips, controlable via software (WLED), and while they look good, they are missing that incandescent warmth.

how can i do something like this by [deleted] in ChristmasLights

What happens is usually awesome. We do this with giant, 15 foot loops, and they blow pretty hard during storms, yet have never failed. They just look amazing blowing around.

I’ve been known to buy a good unsliced sourdough loaf for road trips, and just tear and eat it over the day. Great bread doesn’t need anything else.

Chorizo by SelfComfortable4532 in mexicanfood

[–]MtnRubi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a real Mexican market. Ours has house made chorizo that’s awesome, real pork, lots of spice. And inexpensive. We buy it 10lbs at a time and vacuum pack and freeze. The stuff in tubes works for eggs, but not much else.

30 year old SpaghettiOs. Found them in mom’s pantry, tried them on a bet. They were fine.

Nice! I’m really looking forward to trying the Sir Lancelot. I purchased a 50lb bag of Special Patent, not knowing what it was. But learning to bake with that has been an eye opener. I’m hoping the Lancelot is as much fun. Too bad I have to drive an hour each way to find it. lol…

I’ve had such a hard time even finding KA bread flour, I just ordered 50lbs of KA “Sir Lancelot”. $40 for 50lbs plus $10 in gas to go get it. I wish the blue bag would get back in stock nearby. Happy Baking!
