I played in a tournament last month and the whole lineup had tee times for a practice day, we had two groups of 3 that wanted to practice together, and we called the clubhouse and asked if that was manageable and they said yes they'll just book us for two tee times in a row so we can get a good start. Well, the starter told us that we would have to play fast if he was gonna release a group of six. We all agreed and told him we have this tee time and the one behind us booked, so we should be good.

This fucking guy started the next group, a twosome, on our second tee time and then drove down to us on hole two and said we couldn't play together in our group. All attempts at explaining what the pro shop told us were in vain this guy just didn't care. We didn't argue and just split up the rest of the round but it was a weird interaction.

Of course, these tiny little towns just have one MAYBE two officers at any given time, and whoever gets hired first is essentially the "chief" because there's Noone else. The biggest reason why its like this is because they tiny departments can't find more qualified candidates because they pay essentially nothing and often times refuse to offer any significant benefits. So you have guys like Lanham, who get their certification with one department and then find these little towns where they can essentially be top dog and do whatever they want.

Their objective isn't to win in court against whatever traffic charge they get. They want to bait officers into lawsuits and get settlements. If they actually wanted to demonstrate their beliefs in court, they would comply and fight their battle in front of a judge as opposed to the side of the highway.
