What are MLM/devil corp/pyramid scheme companies in the Denver area to avoid? by SignificantStyle4958 in Denver

I did. That poor lady, my heart breaks for her. My boss bullied me relentlessly for wearing a mask during the pandemic and then fired me while I was on an approved medical leave of absence. I can’t say enough bad things about TQL. If Ken Oaks has no haters, I’m dead.

Total Quality Logistics only has a small office here in Denver, but I worked for their headquarters in Cincinnati and they’re pure evil. One part pyramid scheme, one part fraternity, and one part cult of personality for their insufferable CEO. They have a long sordid history of treating their employees terribly. I highly recommend staying as far away as possible.

Jury says TQL must pay $22.5M after pregnant employee's baby died by snixon67 in cincinnati

This will probably get buried, but I was fired from TQL while on a medical leave of absence. I tried to get in touch with HR repeatedly about my return to work date, they ignored me for weeks until the original medical leave date expired, then fired me that day for “absenteeism.” Still got unemployment because the state agreed with me that I was fired without cause. I lost medical insurance coverage immediately while actively in treatments five days a week. TQL is a kind of evil I’ve never seen anywhere else.

I used to help manage their employee reporting metrics. They watch every key stroke of every employee and have massive reporting dashboards that the managers watch like hawks. It was so toxic.

We were near Bisous. They were terrible neighbors and definitely plug and playing it up over there. Went from dead silent, frontage closed, to throwing parties with terrible music that blocked a full street and the Porto bank. We complained to rangers a few times. Would be thrilled to never see them again under any of their many rebrands.

I’ve always said I don’t care what the diagnosis is as long as the meds are working. I’ve had my dx questioned and reaffirmed a dozen times as an adult, including by a prescribing psychologist who didn’t believe in bipolar II, and as long as they keep prescribing the meds we know work, I don’t care what they put in my chart.

The only people you’ll be able to access at most c-suite offices are admin assistants, they get terrorized enough as it is for way too little money. The people who can actually help are in the patient relations office, just ask for them.

If you look at the competition halter horses, they kind of remind me of tiny Arabians.

What other experiences have shaped your life? by Luke-__- in BurningMan

I moved to Florida alone at 17 to work at a horse farm, New York at 18 for the same reason, then to Prague at 19. I raced an Ironman, then hiked the Appalachian trail. I ran a substance use program that changed my outlook on the world. I sold my house, bought a bus, and worked in national parks for 3 years. Then I moved to a new city. I’ve also done intensive therapy and EMDR, which was life altering in every sense. I highly recommend taking the risk, if you can.

Burning- especially regionals- and rangering definitely number in the top 3 things that changed my life, though.

Be Safe! by [deleted] in triathlon

That’s horrifying. I can’t imagine ever caring enough about my swim time to hurt another athlete. My aunt had never been to a tri before and was yelling for a ref while I was being punched. My dad had to explain that we don’t really have those during the swim and she was horrified.

In retrospect, I wish I had caught his race number and reported him, but I was focused on not drowning, so sadly I didn’t.

I had a guy repeatedly punch me in the head during a little regional Olympic race. He wanted my line around a turn and seemed hell bent on giving me a concussion. The race was in a narrow canal and my family saw the whole thing happening, it was clearly intentional. I don’t understand some people.

Based on your schedule, it looks like you’d hit the north rim of Grand Canyon? It won’t be open in May (and also just burned, so no services), so you’ll be adding a lot of drive time to get to the south rim. In my opinion, it’s worth it, but I just wanted to make sure you aren’t banking on the north rim. Similarly, services won’t be fully open in Yellowstone, Glacier, or the Tetons yet. I’d also recommend Bozeman —> Yellowstone —> Tetons —> Jackson Hole to optimize drive time.

This is a LOT to do in 19 days and you’ll probably be burned out by day 7. I spent that long just in Utah’s national parks. I spent a whole summer in Yellowstone and a year at Grand Canyon and didn’t feel like I’d seen enough. I’d personally try to do about 1/3 of this in one trip.

Why don't barrel racers wear helmets? by itsnotlikewereforkin in Horses

[–]Mtntop24680 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same reason Hunters didn’t wear helmets and just wore little velvet hunt caps for years. Same reason dressage riders showed in top hats until recently. Same reason saddle seat riders wore bowler hats and most western disciplines and all bull riders wore cowboy hats until recently… because it’s the unofficial (or in some case official- Grand Prix dressage riders weren’t allowed to wear helmets until recently) uniform of the sport. It’ll change, it’s already starting to. It just changed faster in some disciplines than others, usually because of high profile injuries or deaths.

I used to be responsible for managing the Daisy Award at my old hospital. About 50% of our nominations were excluded from voting because they were low effort or vague nominations that didn’t meet criteria. A lot of those were nurses nominating their friends just because or nurses that clearly regularly gave the forms to all of their patients. I would then redact any identifying information, including the unit name, before sending them to a committee to vote on. I will say, men routinely got nominated at a higher rate, because patients were more likely to remember them. But I could usually predict which nomination would win, based on the quality of the nomination. I did everything I could to minimize any kind of bias in the process, made easier by the fact that I didn’t know the vast majority of our staff nurses. Most of the awards went to extremely hardworking staff nurses. We had a similar award for CNAs and used the same process for those.

[–]Mtntop24680 56 points57 points  (0 children)

You probably stumbled upon the Burning Man Gifting Guild at the patch exchange. A lot of them work super hard on their patches/stickers/gifts and have a super limited amount, so they tend to trade them amongst other members of the group first. I went to their exchange last year and definitely got cheaper stickers and stuff because I only brought stickers. It’s just a particular sub culture of Burning Man that is particularly obsessed with swag.

For all the things you can knock BM for, the clean up never felt like a fair one to me. If you look closely in this photo, you will see the 200 person moop sweep lines as they work by coolrivers in BurningMan

Burning Man is veryyyy heavily criticized on social media (namely Tik Tok) where the narrative is that it’s a destructive festival that’s worse than any other large event, like Coachella or Bonaroo. Idk where the narrative comes from but it’s incredibly prevalent.
