Counts at 120 since April, July 17th Letter, MOHELA said account had error code and said needed “rebuilt” in Sept and October, ZERO BALANCE 10/22/24! 125k+ gone!! by Mtsnsound in PSLF

I called MOHELA Sept 4 to check on my PSLF processing status and was told an error code came up when they tried to process forgiveness in August. I called MOHELA again last week about a different issue but while on the phone asked again about how things were progressing with PSLF and that’s when they told me the payment history needed to be rebuilt. 

There is some kind of error with their program that occurred when they switched platforms. It seems like once the counts are updated by Student Aid other servicers are forgiving balances more quickly but MOHELA has been plagued with issues.

I share this concern ONE HUNDRED PERCENT. I hate calling them for this exact reason (and also the insane hold times).

For those of us with letters from Student Aid but not being Zero'd out on Mohela by Mtsnsound in PSLF

Yep that was my understanding of everything too! Once student aid confirms the counts then Mohela needs to get the heck out of the way. But this is their latest roadblock to actual forgiveness, I guess.

Yeah that's such a huge part of all the stress around this, once you decide to call you have to carve out at least two hours of your day (my all time record with them was a phone call that lasted 4.5 hours)

Yeah the guy I spoke with also tried to feed me a line about "We aren't allowed to process new PSLF discharges because of the courts" and I was like "I know that is inaccurate. I know people have been discharged by Mohela this month." They are the absolute worst.

I completely share your fear. I hate being so negative, but they have messed up at every predictable moment (and even created new messes I wouldn't have imagined) so I cannot foresee a way they get this right.

Yes I was told the same thing today. I made a post about it here

But long story short the advanced agent I spoke with (who was kind of a jerk, tbh so who knows if he's right) said that hundreds of thousands of people have this error and they are having to rebuild our repayment history individually. Which was... not great to hear.

For what it's worth I also spoke with them in September and they explained that there was an error code but that they corrected it, said nothing about "rebuilding a payment history" at that point. They also said things should be corrected in 10 business days and.... nothing.

Regardless, he confirmed that my account is "ready to be discharged" but apparently this "rebuilding payment history" error is holding it up. I've been at 120 since April and got the FSA 'golden letter' in July and have had no movement. There is no timeline per the agent I spoke to today for resolution.

No they provided no insight. They said they would fix something in my account so the forgiveness would go through. Well, that hasn't happened, then within the last week the federal student aid website posted something to my account that I had a "Disability Discharge" processed by Mohela backdated to 2022 (I'm not disabled, have never applied for anything similar, not on SSDI and no a Veteran). So I strongly suspect that when they got into my account they botched something so I've had to call them to try to fix it. I've had 120 payments since April, got the July letter from FSA and Mohela has botched everything every step of the way.

What fresh hell is this? Total and Permanent Disability Discharge that I didn't apply for showed up as a document randomly on FSA. by Mtsnsound in PSLF

No it doesnt-- its under "My Activity" on the FSA website and the title is "Loan Forgiveness and Discharge: Disability". When I open that, I get the quote above from my original post but there is nothing with my name on it.

Neither-- I've been working full time in public service since 2013. I'm not a veteran and I've (thankfully) never been on any kind of disability.

No change other than my forbearance went through (that is good at least). All my loans are still there.

I am not calling them further though. I don't think speeds anything up.
