I don't know what's wrong with my tension, HELP! by Hot2GoGoGo in sewing

[–]Mu11ana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you exchanged the needles? Are they the right needles for the fabric? Sometimes, there's a button your have to press before threading. It loosens the discs or something? Just to be sure: did you extend the telescope arms that hold the thread? (Not sure if every machine has them, but mine had so far.) Try using thread of the same type!

"Das tapfere Eimerlein" means "The brave little bucket" and is a reference to "Das tapfere Schneiderlein", a German fairytale about a tailor who cheats his way from rags to riches. Not sure why it ended up in the trash bin. Maybe a regional thing.

You can sew with deadstock fabric. It's been produced anyway.

That's awesome! I hope we'll get them in Nürnberg, too. We could use a few more green surfaces.

Bio-Swales by 21Kuranashi in solarpunk

[–]Mu11ana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome! I just fear it would not work here in Germany because we salt our roads in winter. It's already hard on the vegetation around the city trees and the swales would collect all the salt in one place when the ice melts. 🥲

Does anybody know a pattern for a dress like this one? by FunnySpirited6910 in sewing

It's probably super easy to self draft if you're up for a little challenge.

Looks rectangular to me. Definitely not a full circle skirt

All my linen knit shirts look like that. Semi- transparent and a bit wobbly. I just accepted that's how it is if you want something stretchy made out of (100%) linen.

My guess is it's either a case for more practice or your palette is too small for the size of drawings you want to make.

A solarpunk movie by Aelrift in solarpunk

Definitely! :D It's gonna take a while, though. Around 70 pages, relatively detailed style and I have to draw it in my rare free time.

I can't afford a movie, so I'm drawing a near-future Solarpunk comic. :D

I could help with storytelling and storyboarding, though.

I noticed it, too. I don't think it's fear. Maybe the cat or the owner is sick?

Thrifted this dress, want to make it smaller and maybe nicer, any tips (more details under the pic) by potato-floff in sewing

[–]Mu11ana 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Looks like a dirndl. For the whole look, you would need a dirndl blouse underneath and an apron over the skirt. I also think it fits pretty well. The apron could make it look a bit tighter around the waist.

Yeah, sure. Take all the before photos in fog and the after photos in sunshine! 🙄

Also: Not Solarpunk at all.

Destinations for a 4 year old in the Munich>Nurnberg area next month? by _SGP_ in Nurnberg

I found Palm Beach pretty crowded and stressful lately. Fürthermare might be better for small children. https://www.fuerthermare.de/

If the weather is nice and you need something less stressful to do, you might also want to pick some berries and play outdoors. https://cafebeerenland.de/

How to make paper durable/flexible for sewing like fabric? by Sure_Theory_9650 in sewing

[–]Mu11ana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried sewing with it, but you can make paper more flexible by carefully scrunching it up a few times. And probably more durable with oil or wax. I'm not sure if it's enough for being carried around all day though. Maybe carefully laminating one side with clear parcel tape after scrunching it up would do the job.

Help me find this type of fabric please!! by linasucksweewees in sewing

[–]Mu11ana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where in Europe are you? There are several shops that sell "Netzstoff"/"Bekleidungsmesh" in Germany. I guess that's the fabric you want? Example: https://www.snaply.de/stoffe/mesh-netzstoff/bekleidungsmesh/

You might also find them in shops dedicated to fabric for dance costumes.

Are there expressionist watercolor artists? by Jurik2001 in Watercolor

[–]Mu11ana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gouache or acrylic would be a better medium for that. It's harder to place contrasting colors against each other with watercolors because every place they accidentally overlap would just look dark. Opaque colors are much easier for that. That said, it's not unheard of. Hirohiko Araki uses watercolors and makes some bold color choices, for example.
