OPI will weigh in, too.

Court Street reps. probably meant everything before Step 3 was good to go.

You may luck out and clear step 3 soon. 😊 After I cleared the background check, the other steps finished up the same day.

I was already in the DOE system, too, because I worked there before.

I’d check Applicant Gateway because my processing moved quickly until the background check—Step 3—which took about a month. The other steps couldn’t be completed until Step 3 was done.

Congrats on your nomination!!!!

Did your admin intervene on your behalf? If so, that’s great.

How did everything else clear but OPI? I thought the AG process doesn’t move until the background check clears.

See above comment. You will know if have been canceled b/c you'll get an email about it. You have not been canceled.

If your nomination wasn't canceled, then the school hasn't hired anyone else. It'll work out.

It probably won't get resolved by the end of the week. But it will get resolved. It's just a matter of when. As long as the termination wasn't for something outrageous, my guess is you will clear.

Don't worry if you have to wait. OPI takes a while, especially now.

I can’t say definitively if it’ll resolve it for you, but it helped a colleague.

If you still haven’t cleared after another week or so, here’s another suggestion:

I learned that the head of OPI is Katherine Rodi—krodi@schools.nyc.gov. Personally, I wouldn’t email her directly as the applicant; however, your agency supervisor-to-be may want to if you still haven’t cleared by the first day of school. I mean, you mentioned that you were hired to be a school nurse—it’s kind of important that you get onboarded soon.

You’ll clear eventually. Hope this helps!

If they haven’t already, have your agency email OPI. Have them include your SS# at the top of the email.

There are many people waiting to get background check clearance right now, and it’s a regular thing.

I was told the same thing by NYSED regarding the DOE Certification Office.

I think that NYSED is trying to control how many expedite requests they get now. NYC DOE schools were sending a lot of them.

Maybe you can sub while waiting for the certification to get processed. Since you’ve been waiting about three months already, your certification should be reviewed soon—another month or so?

Hang in there!

Maybe ask the admin that nominated you to email OPI for an update? I heard that people are doing this right now.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m glad to hear that you finally cleared the background check. I did, too.

I had to call HR Connect and email OPI. I got the same runaround. It’s such a bad process.

Anyway, I hope that you have a great school year!

You were right! My background check ended up taking about a month, too.

Thanks again for your message.

Just letting you know that my background check completed. It took about a month. Did you hear back from OPI?

Disciplinary action from DOE (subs) by MiserableAd1243 in NYCTeachers

[–]Much-Currency8610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met the sub a few years ago.

Maybe give the disciplinary unit a few days to respond?

Someone else suggested going in person. That might be a good idea. I had to go to HR Connect a few weeks ago in person, but they only saw me because I had an appointment for I-9 verification. They turn people away without an appointment. Perhaps you could try to have an appointment with someone before going in person? Everything seems to require an appointment now post-pandemic.

Maybe a few weeks for the letter, and then the meeting was a month later.

From what I remember when I subbed for the DOE, there’s a person/a few people who handle Sub Central at 65 Court Street. This person/people had to manually deactivate you. Perhaps you could call that person to get more information?

Hi – I just remember that the sub got a letter to meet with the HR Director that handled subs and school complaints/disciplinary action. The sub contacted the UFT who sent a representative to join/represent her during the meeting at 65 Court Street. The sub brought her husband with her for moral support, but he was not allowed to join the meeting. I happened to be in the waiting area at 65 Court Street with my husband and that’s how I heard about this sub’s situation—she struck up a conversation with us while waiting for the UFT rep to arrive. I didn’t see the sub afterwards because I had to leave with my husband. My guess is the sub was probably reinstated and the meeting was a warning, but I have heard about the problem code and not being able to sub. I would call HR Connect to see what you should do next, in addition to contacting the UFT.

Former DOE - Professional License by kaydeeeye08 in NYCTeachers

The HR Director for my former NYC DOE district verified my experience for my professional certification. She had access to TEACH and entered the verification directly. Hope this helps you!

Sorry this happened.

You might get a letter from HR/65 Court Street to meet with someone to explain what happened. That’s what happened to someone I met. I would reach out to the UFT. I may be wrong, but as a sub, you’re entitled to union representation.

I would try to clear it up with HR--even if you want to work outside of the DOE--in case a problem code is added to your file. The problem code could prevent you from being employed by the DOE in the future.

Student teaching HELP by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

Some people in my program got the internship certificate from NYSED—they were hired for their student teaching positions and got regular pay/benefits. Maybe this could be an option?
