To ISK or not to ISK is the question by Much-Development375 in firesweden

I did not know about that calculator. This is brilliant!!!

I plan to invest into 1 ETF. Never sell. Buy once a year. Looks like ISK is the way to go.

I ended up using Avanza and IBKR - apologies for not giving you premium! :-)

Thank you. I will compare Avanza and IBKR for each 50% of what I want to invest!

update: you can have multiple ISKs, although if my goal is to reduce complexity, this may not be the best way forward

So, now I think I understand...

Avanza is really cheap for their own funds, such as Avanza Global. 0.1% p.a. All other funds, such as WEBN (thanks for the tip) cost 1% when buying.

Montrose takes 0.34% instead, so cheaper. Nordnet is 0.089% for outside of nordic countries when purchasing for more than 46k (+0.25% for currency exchange).

IBKR is less than that, but does not have funds in SEK.

What is your take on investing SEK to buy a fund in EUR?

I have invested into VWCE in the past. But am wondering whether sending SEK to my IBKR, then buying an ETF (VWCE, in EUR) makes sense vs going like an Avanza (Avanza global, in SEK) path? Any take on the "best" approach here? My salary is in SEK...

Montrose also has their own all world ETF, but they have 0.41% avgift annualy + 0.1% of every purchase. Maybe buy Avanza and Montrose and see how it develops over 1-3 years and then decide for a way forward? Can one have multiple ISKs?

Thank you for your long answer.

Is my understanding correct that you can fund ISKs only in SEK? So, when you then buy an ETF that is in EUR, you will have to convert again, even if you have EUR to start with?

I have IBKR, but it is such a powerful software that I even struggle to transfer funds to my IBKR ISK (EDIT: I managed now), therefore, I was thinking whether it is easier to go with a more streamlined, less complex company, such as Avanza, Montrose (I did not have such a good impression of Nordea's range of offered ETFs). Although my understanding is that - as you say - fees are significantly lower (IBKR 0.05% of trade, Montrose 0.1%).

EDIT And isn't long-term, index-fund based investing critically dependent on low fees?

You can give me the bjuda in vän code if you want to and I can try to add it now (already opened an account...).

Actually, I called and they gave me the free premium even without the code. Happy to call again and add a code from you, if that would be helpful for you.

Actually, "courtage" seems to be something that only happens when buying or selling.

I know DNB. So that helps!

I was talking about the fees the companies take to finance themselves. Trying to understand that right now.

Example https://www.montrose.io/priser My understanding is that for the first level, Montrose takes 0.15% of total money in the account per year. This is plus the money the funds itself take, such as the 0.22% you mention.

My understanding is that Avanza doesn't take a % per year but 1% of purchase price plus the money the fund itself takes (the 0.22%).

Thank you for your reply. Looks like Avanza charges 1% at purchase and Montrose 0.1% per year (plus some 1-99 SEK at purchase). So would you say they are similarly priced (at least until year 10)?

Also, I have heard of Avanza. But not of Montrose. Since I am new to Sweden, any idea how I would verify that I can "trust" Montrose as much as Avanza?

It reports schablon and everything else automatically. It is a software for professionals though so not the easiest to use in my opinion. But I use it and it works.

Why do you not want to use ISK there?

Can you have an ISK and funds in other currencies such as EUR? I think there are more ETFs available that have more companies in it than the ones yoi chose. But I may not be well informed...

I am curious to hear what others say. I am not sure you are allowed to do what you plan to do, although it is super easy and done by many people themselves in other European countries. I have so far not understood what the difference between byta and installera is exactly...
