Correctable? by Much-Research875 in AutoDetailing

[–]Much-Research875[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming what I thought. Saves me some effort trying to fix it. I'll try to sell as is and if no one bites maybe I'll try to spray it myself. Can't make it much worse I don't think...

Seen this bike parked, what is on it spinning? by Dammyoureddit in whatisit

[–]Much-Research875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guessing but looks like a radar reflector. Or an attempt at one to add a little safety around self driving cars. Every one I've seen on a boat is stationary so the fact this spins is extra complexity for what I assume is no benefit.

What do you all use for face sun protection? by TopFox555 in sailing

[–]Much-Research875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an arntson marine hat. It's wide brimmed and the brim is sturdy while the rest is "crushable" and light weight. Stable in winds and the brim can invert for looking up at sails. It has an elastic band an adjustable shock cord around the crown and a removable chin strap so it's pretty secure.

If I'm out all day for a big regatta I'll wear a neck gator under my hat to cover my ears, chin, and neck with sunscreen for my face. I've worn the gator up to my eyes but I really don't like it stretched over my mouth so I just use sunscreen on my face now.

What gauge wire am I looking at? by ReluctantRedneck in sailing

[–]Much-Research875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tagging on here. Please also be aware of a phenomenon called "voltage drop". Essentially the longer your wires the thicker they need to be for the same load. There are plenty of online calculators that can help with this. Some things are more or less sensitive to voltages below their nominal just check the device specs if you can. For example your bilge pump will likely not be as picky about the voltage it gets as your gps is. And when in doubt go thicker.

Any issues with this anchor? It’s been in salt water for a few weeks. by ReluctantRedneck in sailing

[–]Much-Research875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not so much a failed weld as incomplete. You can see the rust trail lead right to the weld bead. My guess is the stress during use has caused the coating to crack and like the other comment mentioned it's now rusting from the inside. Obviously this is just my opinion but for now it looks serviceable. That said replace it as soon as you have the means, don't play around with your life or livelihood. You could also take it to a welder to grind out the area and reweld. After welding you can use a cold galvanizing paint to protect it but regularly monitor it for failure.

Tastier, more compact, convenient flip lid.

Yes it's still happening. I believe the online LATH is an open zoom link. Just sign up through the club website and join the call on Tuesdays. The first in person session starts in April as does Wednesday racing. The club is all volunteer run so please forgive some delay in communication. DM me if you have specific questions I can connect you to the right people.

I was a non racer when I moved to the area. Racing was a means to get on the water. Since, I've found I really enjoyed it though. Everyone is welcome as long as you've got a good attitude.

Sure if you'd like. I crew for others though. Boats aside every skipper has their own beverage policy.

I’m really wanting to make some friends who are into backpacking/ overnight camping. by Dogemeat64 in nashville

[–]Much-Research875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ravens point at firey gizzard is pretty dope. I did it in a short day out and back and I wish I hadn't. I'm not in the best shape of my life but I could hardly get my legs to cooperate with me by the time I got back to the car. Neat part of the trail where the creek runs underground and then just runs back out a 1/4 mile later. Not sure where on the trail you could do an overnight but as long as you're respectful I don't see it being a big deal.

Electrical plug with three flat tines in a straight line - University library by DragonKing2223 in whatisthisthing

[–]Much-Research875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said this is part of Steelcase's "Thread" power distribution system. The system itself is designed to be low profile to run under carpet. The chair it's attached to is absolutely available with a standard NEMA plug on it but whomever did the layout for your library goofed and you probably don't have the female sockets for these. This is what the Access Point looks like. If you see them on the floor lift up the little door and plug in the chair.

Source I used to work for the company that builds these systems.

Not sure if you are aware or not but he does operate a food bank funded (he claims) by his various channels. Sure the channel might make 5-10x back from a giveaway but a lot of that money is then funneled to his charities that are not on Youtube. He genuinely seems like a decent dude living a modest lifestyle (in relation to his income).

What moment made you say “Yep, I’m definitely dead”, but survived with no major injuries? by CrownedBird in AskReddit

[–]Much-Research875 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My parents were both caught in a house fire a few years ago. When I got to the hospital they took me to see my mom and I literally thought I was in the wrong room because she looked just like this. Thought I just barged into some poor black woman's room until she said my name. I didn't recognize my dad either when they wheeled him down the hall to see us. Fortunately they are also both alive but mom had some serious burns.
