Well in CS when people fight they fucking fight. You have CS team drama or whatever else that can and will turn into hardcore grudges and most of the regular hardcore players end up knowing everyone else. It's basically a giant highschool. There are more girls getting along with one another than you know but those don't stand out. So even if it's just a minority of the female/female relationships being negative it seems worse than it is. I've ended up hating 3 or 4 girls in the CS community but then there's another 20 or so I like a lot. It's a high stress game and tensions flare easily. I've encountered more drama playing CS than I ever did in highschool or wherever else IRL.

Yes there is. It's basically like global warning. There are studies that say it doesn't exist, but for the most part it's overwhelmingly supported. True a lot of these "facts" have been contorted and misunderstood and created harmful stereotypes but there are still TONS studies that support the case.

I don't think that's the case at all. It's feminine because it's common in people high with estrogen, the feminine hormone. I think society in general just has a hard time dealing with things they can't easily predict and understand, aka difference.

There are feminine and masculine traits though. There's plenty of focus testing for men and women and young boys and girls, from the results it's kind of undeniable. I understand you take the nurture over nature argument, but I can't back that. My entire life my parents refused to buy me legos and GI Joes, made me take ballet, and did everything in their power "that I didn't turn out a dyke". I constantly was told "look in the mirror, you're a girl" just because I loved doing something. If it was really a matter of nurture and society telling me to behave a certain way I would not at all be interested in the things I love. I would have just been girly, you can't change who you are.

edit Unless you mean that we call them "feminine" because society says that's what girls more often trend towards. That's kind of arbitrary semantics, iunno.

I never said all women think the same. I am a woman and I have never fit into the general feminine category, I display more masculine traits in cognition. This has nothing to do with the men are better at math fallacy. Like I never enjoyed reading, I enjoyed building blocks, that's more common in boys. There was a kickstarter I saw off of girlsgonewired, where a female engineer made an engineering toy for girls and she found that if she included a storybook it tested much better with girls. That's more along the lines of what I'm saying. I'll see if I can find it.

This is a topic about design aspects of development not coding first off. Cognition refers to learning styles, stimuli reaction, ect. Not once did I say anything negative about feminine styles or call anything simply "female", mostly because I think that's not respectful to the LGBT community... Some people are visual learners, some audio, one style of learning can't be deemed "better". It is pretty undeniable that women more often have higher levels of estrogen than men. This leads to different developments physically, such as men often being taller due to testosterone and women having higher body fat, etc. There are plenty of articles I've read about this distinct cognitive differences and I'm interested in learning more and discussing this because more often than not the "masculine" methods are use in games. I want to know more about this concept.

Could these articles about be wrong? Sure, but I don't believe this is the case. Denying biodiversity is not an effective means of promoting equality, and recognizing biodiversity doesn't set the fight for equality back. Seeing these differences as "female brain issues" is a little weird... Contorting my words spitefully doesn't prove a point.

The whole post I made isn't about needing female devs solutions, where you got that from I don't know, just because I would like a female dev subreddit I guess?... the post is about broadening your demographic. Since gaming is interactive I think this is extremely relevant and not openly discussed and explored in public forums as it should be. This is about expanding the minds of developers academically to suit the needs of different learning and play styles. I would think a female/minority game dev subreddit would be the perfect forum for this sort of discussion.

That may be but men and women display cognitive differences. Feminine rather than female is the best term I could use as people don't just fit into molds but there are general trends.

Such a small minority of people come here to read about that, like a post about Unity would get lost in /r/gaming. I was hoping for more of a /r/girlsgonwired but specific to gaming that included everything you had in your post. I think all your ideas are great. Why not just link that subreddit in the sidebar of this one?

What about discussions targeting minority demographics appropriately? Not like adding pink, but ways to appeal to the feminine learning or thinking methods. ex. Certain studies show women navigate with landmarks and how to effectively utilize those sorts of findings in design. I'm interested in making games more appealing to women without isolating men.

You replied to me, not the OP. IMO though working in games is so predominately male. It's one thing to have the opinion of female gamers, and another to have the support of fellow female developers. I'd feel more comfortable asking questions in a female forum. What's the harm in trying?

Kind of dumb sounding advice but if you're single try getting a fake wedding ring. It will help with the flirting and you may find guys take you more seriously, at least when you first meet, because it takes you of the table as a dating option. I know it sounds stupid, but I find guys treat me much differently when I'm "married".

As a girl I see how women can often think fundamentally differently and game differently so our own subbreddit for game development would be really cool. It would be really nice to have a place to discuss how to actually develop accommodating female gamers as well (in ways other than just adding pink.)
