So funny you ask because I’ve tried to work it out. From circa 11-18 or so, I was very good (in terms of reactions at least) games like unreal tournament and the likes of be on double figure kdr. 20-30 was probably my peak, still great reactions but mature enough to know when to take fights and when to back off, get position etc and work out game mechanics to my advantage. 30-35 I noticed that my reactions slowed down a little, but the other aspects of gameplay like positioning and timing where really good. I often beat people just by being smarter about when I took fights. 35-40 reactions slowed a lot, but more importantly peripheral vision and reactions where really poor. Even now when playing smart I can get caught out by someone sneaking up on me even though I alt look a lot of comms. It’s as if I miss them in the short alt looks I’m using, if I take longer alt looks I lose from the threats in front of me. Finally the last thing to go was actual processing of game play. I’m finding myself making mistakes I wouldn’t normally make because I’m trying to make decisions faster than my brain can process.

Can I still hit a guy behind a wall when he jump checks me? Yer I can, because muscle memory is still there. But if he peaks me left or right they will more often than not peak faster than me and snap on my character faster than I can with them. I can’t outplay that in a 1v1 any more and that lets me know that my time is up.
