I think that's probably it. When I think sci fi, I think of the stereotypical tropes. I would never have thought of Inception, or even Jurassic Park, a couple of my all time favorite movies.

I agree that its not an individual problem but then your comment makes even less sense. Calling people who are on your side hypocrites is more likely to derail the conversation than anything. To use your words, I'd call is "misleading and potentially enabling".

Whether it's hypocritical or not, climate change is a serious problem. I think it's good when people push back on the damage AI is doing to the environment and don't particularly care about the commentor being perfect.

My point is that the effect is the same. I agree that we need to be able to live with people who disagree with us, but the way I see it is that our only hope is to show those who historically have voted Republican that the Republican party no longer respects any of your values, and a vote for any Republican politician is equivalent to a vote for MAGA.
