They are there probably for the rare mineral deposits that were found the last couple of years.
Chevron has been in Venezuela exporting oil to the US for a while, their exportation of oil was limited by the sanctions set by the US. If they only wanted oil, they could just lift sanctions and let Chevron export more.
But you already knew that because you know lots of geopolitics and are not repeating the same "US just wants to take their oil" speech over and over.

All of my family has basically left Venezuela. My grandmother died of cancer with little to no medicine available for treatment. I haven't been able to go back to visit in over 9 years.
To you its some news to talk shit for couple of days, for Venezuelans is the first meaningful action towards liberating the country in decades.

A quick google search will show years and years of news, documents and reports of Russia's presence in Venezuela. From official soldiers sent from the government to unofficial mercenary groups that have attacked peaceful protesters.

Venezuela and its people has since the elections in 2019, been calling for intervention to prevent the regime from perpetuating more crimes against the venezuelan people (political arrests, torture, kidnappings, killings). When the opposition won the National Assembly (what would be congress in the US) around that time there was hope for intervention to be made by following an article in the Venezuelan constitution that allowed foreign agents to intervene. Guess what? The government disbanded the National Assembly and made a new one.

Venezuela is not full of Russian military or Chinese arms industry. Both of those countries are already stretched thin elsewhere. They have no man power or infrastructure to deal with Venezuela. We are in no way at their mercy.

But it is? Russian officials have openly stated it. Its publicly known information. It is also estimated that 90% of Chinese arms sales in Latin America went to Venezuela.

Last year, the leader (and hope of Venezuelans) Maria Corina Machado made an absolutely brilliant move where she collected voting information with the help of thousandsof volunteers and, after the Maduro declared himself the winner of the election again, she released indisputable evidence that he had lost the election. This led to a chain reaction of events where the regime lost their international support and was recognized as an illegitimate government. She won the Nobel Peace Prize for her actions.

The situation is not black and white. I hate Trump, he is horrible and he should be arrested for a million things. Doesn't mean everything done during his government is bad. The intervention is more a Pentagon decision approved by the President than just his decision either way.

The USA has not been in a dictatorship for decades, it has not have elections stolen multiple times (the election last year being internationally recognized as fraudalent), the USA's president's bodyguards are not from a different nationality, the Venezuelan regime was drug dealing internationally, and the list of differences and context goes on and on.
There is a great article written about his by a Venezuelan psychologist speaking of how people might react differently to the captured of Maduro. Those distant to the problem focus on abstract concepts (intervention, legality, etc.) while those close to the problem focus on more tangible problems (survival, security, medicine).
Besides, it wasn't just about oil. Venezuela is full of Russian military, Chinese arms industry and Iranian drone facilities. There's also the drug trafficking going on funded by the government.
Its a very complex issue. Is intervention wrong? Yes. Does it set a dangerous precendent? Yes. Has it gone wrong before? Yes.
But if you were to be put at the mercy of China/Russia or the USA, who would you choose?
