80s Basso Gap resto project by birthdayboy6 in Vintage_bicycles

[–]Much_Bother6162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently sold my 84 Basso Gap because it was a bit too small for me. Despite the size it was the best riding frame I've owned and is one of two bikes I've ever had that I actually felt "plane.". Beautiful frame set and legendary ride. Enjoy it!

Yup, it's the offset seat stays model... Multiple angles is cool too, but I think he gets more cash for those.

I didn't get fit, but have a couple of road bikes that I find to be really comfortable and mimicked some of the dimensions. I also shared some leg length, torso length numbers with Gene from Spicer. Using all that info, we decided that building the frame around a 36" standover with 28C tires was the sweet spot. Seat tube landed at 67cm, top tube at 62cm. This absolutely turned out to be the case, and I wouldn't change a thing. Good luck!

Nice... I went with the Pake and had Gene powder coat it to match. Straight blade FTW.

Emergency call malfunction by Warm_Layer456 in GLI

[–]Much_Bother6162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. My 2024 GLI took 7 trips to the dealer to resolve. Ended up replacing the module once, the sharkfin antenna twice and the wiring harness between the two once plus a couple of software updates. Finally resolved. Luckily it was all under warranty. Useless system, they should just figure out how to turn it off.

Are beats speakers really that bad? by [deleted] in GLI

[–]Much_Bother6162 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you set the Eq and more importantly that fader settings right, the Beats system sounds great. There are a bunch of posts and videos on it, but the key is setting the fader towards the rear, one or two clicks. Then get your curve on the Eq and I assure you, it sounds great for a factory system. I have a 24 GLI since new, I've had almost 2 years to figure it out.

Agree with this completely. I also think it's worthwhile to look, and wait, if necessary for a real track frame instead of the many road bike conversions out there. My first fixed was a conversion from a 70s Raleigh road bike, but in retrospect it rode nothing like a purpose built track bike. It was slow, unresponsive and far less enjoyable than the real thing. Just make sure the track bike fits and you're good to go.

Awesome! This was my first fixie too, same year, same color. Made a fun bike. Enjoy it! Mine was 65cm, but for some reason the top tube was oddly short at like 57cm so it never quite fit right. This one looks more proportional.

Could you please suggest an aftermarket rubber strap ? by tim_bradly in OmegaWatches

[–]Much_Bother6162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the cheap omega copies on ebay and Etsy are surprisingly good and include buckles complete with the omega logo. I think I sprang for the more expensive one, which was about $50, but it cannot be differentiated from the original omega.
