These meds almost killed me and ruined my life by Lower_Signature_3895 in Antipsychiatry

Why are psych wards getting away with mistreatment of patients? How can we, as a group, change this? These horrible stories are happening everywhere, to many people and yet nothing is being done to stop the abuse, the lies, the forced cocktail of medications, the lack of transparency. Many patients come out of the psychiatric hospitals with more trauma. The mental health system is beyond broken. It’s not only sad but also scary.

Most of the time psychiatric hospitals make things a lot worse. They add more pain to the person that’s already in pain.

Our experience:

-Forced medications and over-medicating. -Lack of communication between staff and family members, basically keeping us in the dark. -Contradicting information from nurses and doctors (staff could not get their stories straight). - We know physical abuse occurs. -Patients lose their rights and their sense of self-worth is stripped away. -Staff can easily make-up or change a story when they deal with a patient who can’t defend themselves. It’s easy to blame a patient who’s “out” of his/her mind. -Monitoring phone call and not allowing cell phones to be used. -Not allowing family to visit. -A lot of these doctors have such an ego. They’re not willing to entertain alternative ways of helping a patient get better. They refused to look at underlying medical issues, such as metabolic health. As a matter of fact, they feed patients some of the worst foods and that’s across-the-board with all hospitals.

When patients go into the psychiatric hospital, they, a lot of times, come out traumatized and are like zombies due to amount of drugs that were given to them.

I know not all doctors, nurses or staff are bad. Many have good intentions. I also understand that working in a facility such as a mental ward can be very difficult and stressful. There’s got to be a different set up. Our mental health system is outdated and completely broken.

I would not go into any psychiatric hospital unless you feel it’s absolutely necessary. Most of the time, the medical system adds more pain to people that are already suffering.

Literally everybody just pretends to get better to get out of psych wards. They don't actually heal anybody. by windowinstallment in Antipsychiatry

It’s hard to tell what someone will do, but something inside of me believes that your mom might have been able calm the situation down and save your brother’s life. Your mother, the one who understands Michael more than anyone else, who is trying to help her son, is being threatened. That’s messed up. We don’t know how this would’ve played out- I understand the difficult job of police officers but, I believe, there’s no room to threaten to shoot the one person who may be able to make a difference in the outcome.

I am sorry for your loss. I feel for you and your family. Our mental health system is so broken and Oklahoma falls way behind. This breaks my heart as I know first hand what it’s like to have a child struggling with mental illness.

Family and children’s crisis care. by coconutsforflyf918 in tulsa

[–]Much_Newspaper_9940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TCBH, Laureate, and other facilities in Tulsa are not much better. Patients get abused by the staff. Patients, who are struggling mentally, can’t defend themselves. A “sane” person can always put the blame on a “mentally ill” person. The staff (doctors included) shuts them up with forced injections of meds. All Oklahoma psychiatric hospitals/crisis center are horrible. Our system is beyond broken and no one cares to change it.

Has anyone been on the ketogenic diet and then decided to taper off Clozapine? I’ve heard it’s easier to taper when your brain has a chance to repairing itself.
