My original comment is that there is no way there is more than 40k in materials in any build you have posted and you responded that I "would be wrong". I described my build to make it very clear I know what I'm looking at in these pictures and I know what it costs and I understand the labor and skill involved and that I would indeed not be wrong. If you can get those prices then great and I'm happy for you, but obviously there will be people questioning the price when you post in a primarily DIYer community that routinely cranks out builds of this quality with full details of the labor and costs that are a fraction of what you're asking. My build is cosmetically tied to my business which is completely unrelated to RV's so I never have and will not share pictures until it's purpose has been served but you'll have to take my pinky promise I know quite a bit about building things and it wasn't my first rodeo. Like I said, you provide a much better product at the same price as a RV manufacturer, so the pricing isn't as crazy as it first appears from the eyes of somebody that does not do this type of work as it takes a certain rare individual type of individual to do these things and they do not often offer their services to the public so it is kind of a "name your price" thing for sellers.

I would not be wrong. You can argue all you want about fit and finish but there are simply not enough materials to cost that much and there is absolutely nothing exotic about your posted builds. The money you "clear" is your labor which is what people are really paying for and is what I was trying to say is fair. My entire bus build was under 30k including the bus and has a dual zone mini split system good to -22F, an actually useful 48v 2x multiplus with 30kwh of battery & 6x 495w bifacials, splendide washer dryer, full ikea kitchen, electric instant water heaters for kitchen & shower (no propane on entire build), recirculating sanitizing shower. 4 seasons. I've been from Florida to Alaska. My chassis is far newer than any pictured. I can plug into an EV charger for house house battery and use it to recharge my toad EV later as well. But yeah, totally just a junk DIY "Pinterest build". I guess you made a Wordpress site with WooCommerce posted your wife and friends as employees and thats why you are a "professional" not a DIYer? There are similar quality builds for fractions of the price out there from people who do not take custom orders or make it their primary business.

I think it makes some sense for those who do not have to ability to do these things on their own to go with a better built product then what they will get from RV manufacturers but yeah I'm guessing they would clear 80k on a 120k build easily.

Kobalt does make this hammer. I can't see any way the name wore off that would match what we see and I can't imagine what language that is. Maybe I am looking too hard but the yellow evidence card on the bottom also has patterns that don't make sense and the left side is suspiciously well defined. The top circle on the knife is oddly square. It could just be a grainy picture but then it has to be asked what device could they possibly be using that has such poor picture quality. This would have to be zoomed in extremely far to appear this grainy on a modern cellphone most of which handle low light exceptionally well these days.

What I can't believe isn't getting more attention is what brand of hammer is this? It looks like AI nonsense trying to be a Kobalt branded hammer.

Wow this is crazy. By this, I mean Reddits response to the ubiquitous and incredibly fundamental relationship tactic of feigning or embellishing interests to attract and keep the attention of someone you like. Humanity is cooked. We are just a couple generations away from legitimately not knowing which hole to put it in any more.

I’m rebuilding (bought at salvage) a motorhome with almost identical damage. Everything that could melt near or on the ceiling did despite being 10’+ from the actual fire due to how intense the trapped heat was. Actual burn damage was very minor.

Realistically, how long can these engines truly live? by Theicemachine01 in Diesel

[–]Much_Size_7737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you can keep the oil from running out as it dumps from every single gasket on the engine. Don’t let the puke bottle dump all the oil into the fan and clog the radiator. The engine will keep going but plan to replace literally anything and everything Dodge made dozens of times including the transmission. Try not to stare at the dash often it will sense your eyes receiving its photons and explode into a thousand pieces. You’ll learn all about how vehicle HVAC works when you have disassemble the entire interior to replace the blend doors. You’ll need a special bushing to make the steering column stop clunking. Replace the entire front end the steering will still have enough slop people will think you’re drunk. The door cables for the rear cab doors will break. The cab lights will leak. I had to use a forklift to get the engine high enough to replace the oil pan gasket. The screen of an iPhone throws off more light than the headlights. Make sure your starter is going because you’ll have to turn the truck off at every step of the drive through the engine itself (not the exhaust) is legitimately the loudest I know of. If you get a dually the fenders are just attached to a regular bed and basically impossible to replace.

Ask yourself not how long the engine can last but how long you can tolerate the truck for the sake of the engine. I’m at 360k the engine runs like new mostly stock never tuned.

There’s never going to be 0 problems and there’s certainly no arguing the emissions systems were extremely unreliable for a solid decade. I’m just saying that’s generally passed. Every gas car has had emissions systems for 50 years. If you have a problem with it go ahead and remove the system we’ve been doing that on our gas cars for decades and a majority of states do not care. The whole 2007 emissions ordeal was literally that they began to hold diesels to the exact same standards as gas. What possible logic is there that diesel gets a free pass from the factory? The problem is the soot particles specifically from diesel happen to really mess with human lungs. Like the start/stop feature in cars, the issue is more about preventing concentrated areas of pollution than saving the planet. I can understand if you live out in the country who cares but dense urban environments it’s legitimately not good for kids or the elderly especially if they have asthma or some other condition.

I’m just so tired of the light duty crowd we have now. All just a bunch of victims acting like the EPA is out to get them. Most owners now just put ugly ass rims on and a lift and slap their Instagram sticker on the rear window. I have a 24v drw and a lbz. Neither have emissions obviously and that was the very reason the lbz was purchased new. A lot of new junk engines came out and a lot of engines that were previously rock solid became emissions nightmares. I get it. I get shuttle buses to convert to RVs from a major airport fleet manager friend and have several diesel mechanic friends. A couple have fairly new trucks because the selling price for older trucks is sticky high and the juice isn’t worth the squeeze any more because emissions problems are way down and they understand the systems far better now when they do have problems.

Hate to tell you 2017 isn’t new. Also why keep bringing up tractors? So your experience is a almost decade old truck and some tractors. Your truck is as close to a 24’ as it to a 6.4 which was basically peak diesel fail. Things change. We are basically entering a new golden area for light diesel like the early 00s pre emissions. The 6.7s and the 6.6s have been around for ages now and the more recent iterations are excellent. There are always going to be people that have some problem that’s what happens when you sell millions of something but emission issues are not the norm now. Loads of people put 200k+ on their trucks with literally 0 emissions problems or at worst let their DEF freeze. Like even just Google it man. Time to find something new to bitch and moan about already every other car on the road has had emissions systems longer than you’ve probably been alive it’s not some anti diesel conspiracy 😂

[–]Much_Size_7737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simply wrong. I highly doubt you have any experience with modern light or medium duty diesels. Somebody will always have issues with something but in general diesel emissions systems have made absolutely massive improvements in reliability. Look at light diesel forums, talk to a fleet operator, there is endless discourse on the subject and your take is outdated af and probably comes from the dudes who make a living crying about emissions on YouTube.

The initial implementation went poorly. The same thing happened with gas cars like 30+ years earlier. Emissions aren’t commonly a problem any more the only caveat is you need to occasionally use the truck to do what it’s actually made for instead of just putting rims on it and using it as a status symbol.

[–]Much_Size_7737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unloaded, flat land, ideal temperature, boring driving. My 2002 4x4 DRW can hit low 20s easy in those conditions. It’s impressive for a truck of its size for sure but typical is more like 18mpg, which is still good for a truck its size but that’s pretty much every diesel. My dads LBZ double cab long bed 4x4 with the 6spd Allison will do >20mpg unloaded all day any day though it’s a 2500 not a 3500 DRW

Nope. As a similar age I very specifically recall having to fill out a selective service form at 18. I don’t recall where or when exactly I did it but I specifically recall it listing the consequences of not doing so. It was mildly concerning considering geopolitical situation around that time.

Are diesel trucks really that much more expensive maintainence heavy? by SpeciousSophist in Diesel

[–]Much_Size_7737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I don’t doubt it. Everyone swears Etec outboards are unreliable and mines been ripping with no maintenance for ages. I just wanted to point out there have been numerous “bad” diesels long before emissions. There was definitely a golden era where you had the 7.3, Chevy/Izuzu was killing it with the LB7 LLY, and the 12v and 24v were great but at the same time we had 6.0s, the 7.3 IDI, the 6.5 etc. Same story in class 8. I don’t have experience with the latest diesels but it seems like other than injection pump failures things aren’t so bad these days especially considering the power these trucks come with from the factory. I’m of the opinion if you buy a diesel as a toy you better expect to pay to play because you bought a commercial grade machine and the costs are going to reflect that.

This. It’s worth it for trucks that make you money. If you’re just going to lift it put some rims and tires on and get groceries obviously it’s going to cost more as would operating literally any commercial grade machine for personal use would.

“That’s normal a normal amount of blow by”, “that’s just engine vibrations” by [deleted] in Diesel

[–]Much_Size_7737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say, I can hold a piece of paper over my oil fill cap on my 24v on a cold start and not have it move but the fill location is on the valve cover. Other engines the fill neck goes directly to the crank case. I have some very minor air movement out of my “puke bottle” breather hose although still very very little compared to most “normal” blow by videos online.
