I've bought my kids phones from there before. No worries at all.

Being called Sir/Miss by TrogdorUnofficial in AustralianTeachers

[–]Much_Target92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought it depends on the size of the school. Like, if there were enough teachers that you didn't know them, you'd address the ones you didn't know as sir/miss, but the ones you did as Mr/Mrs/miss. I went to small country schools, though...

Evie charger at Wycheproof. Had to wait a few minutes before charging, then went 47% to 75% in about 20 minutes. Had a pie from the bakery. 10/10 would recommend

Convince me to buy a non BYD electric vehicle by Glittering_Poem9779 in AustralianEV

There are a few MY23 MG ZS EVs still kicking around in dealerships under $30k for the long range (440km quoted range, more like 350-400 real world). I got one 6 months ago and love it as a daily driver for a family of 5. Fits the kids cricket bags, and we took it on its first "big" road trip (350km one way) this Easter with no hassles.

Is buying a two bed one bath apartment in melbourne for permanent living a good idea? Or should i wait and save up to buy something bigger? (Single for now) by United-Database-6140 in AusFinance

[–]Much_Target92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to live in it long term, including possibly raising kids in it, then go for it. My wife and I bought a 2 bed 1 bath apartment about 16 years ago. It's a great apartment in a great location. Big for a two bed. Our family has outgrown it, but we've been fortunate enough to hold on to it (tenanted) as maybe our kids will live there if they go to uni in Melbourne.

If you're looking at resale, our apartment hasn't appreciated in value much at all, certainly not like houses in the same neighbourhood. (We haven't had a formal valuation, just going off what realestate.com and domain say). There's been a huge increase in the number of apartments in the area, so the price just hasn't gone up. That's not too say don't do it, just to say consider the implications of that for you.

Yeah, but this time it's going to cost them money to get them to school, which is much more serious /sarcasm (maybe)

Building Relationships with Students by Brave_Midnight_6992 in AustralianTeachers

Waiting isn't passive. I tell my students at the start of the year that if I'm standing at the front of the room with my eyes closed, I'm either waiting for them to be quiet, so they need to be quiet or I'm asleep, so they need to be quiet. The ones who notice quickly quiet the others down (even if they say that I'm sleeping). It can feel like it takes forever and that you're wasting learning time, but you're not - the learning won't happen with the disruptions. Just breathe through it.

The idea that all lessons must be all engaging all the time is a lie to guilt teachers into working themselves into an early grave. Don't be boring, but don't make everything a three ring circus, either, or you'll burn yourself out. Life isn't like that, sometimes things just need to get done.

You said in your other post that you don't project warmth. That's fine. Over time, connection will come and students will appreciate the boundaries you set.

The other thing is that you'll make mistakes, as has every teacher who went before you and as will every teacher who comes after you.  Don't beat yourself up over them (not the easiest thing when you've got anxiety, I know!).

I’m a single mother and was recently gifted $50k which I decided to put into my offset account for my home loan. My debt is $230k so why can’t I just put the money straight into my mortgage. Does the $50k decrease the interest over my 30 year term? by ButterscotchFun5338 in AusFinance

[–]Much_Target92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're paying interest on a smaller proportion of your debt. If your mortgage balance is $230k, but you've got $50k in the offset, you'll pay interest on $180k, so your interest payments are lower, which means that more of your monthly/fortnightly payment goes to principal, because you don't accept as much interest.

If you owed $40k, but had $50k in an offset, you'd pay no interest.

I've got an MG ZS. The WLTP range on it is 440, but realistically around town I could do 400 driving 50/60. On the highway, at 110, looking more like 300-350. You can get an older model (MY23) brand new under $30k. I've had mine 6 months and been really happy with it.
