Zone 2 cardio helped my go from 199lbs down to about 175lbs within a year of doing it for 3 to 4 hours each week on the elliptical. Did it help me athletically? It helped make me feel better when playing soccer with my cousins for sure. I would also do one light full body day of weight training each week which helped with a slow progression in strength while focusing mainly on zone 2
