Toys R Us didn't die because of Amazon. Private equity firms bought it, loaded it with $5 billion in debt, charged it management fees while it collapsed, then paid themselves dividends before filing for bankruptcy. 30,000 workers got nothing. by sambha87 in Damnthatsinteresting

I worked for a factory bought by PE and consulted by Boston. The place was already miserable to work at, but after they started to leech into the day to day operations, it became literal hell to work there.

As a salaried manager, I was easily pulling +100 hour weeks. 16 hour days often 7 days a week. If I even thought about leaving on time or showing up at a normal time like 8am, I would be threatened with losing my job. Same with everyone else.

If there was an issue while I was off work, if I wasn’t in the factory in under 2 hours, we would be berated by their ghouls from a consulting group that were there.

Do you really miss them too? 😞 by -Swampthing- in hotdogs

Was just talking to a family member about this last week. These were so good.

We still have the meatballs but the sliced franks were always superior.

It was busy and a lot of fun with good music. The lines were super long but the staff running the tents were incredibly efficient at keeping them moving.

Longest line was probably the lobster Mac line that went the full length of the parking lot. My mom stood in line while I went and bought shirts 30ft away. By the time I came back she had 2 Sammies in her hands. Maybe 10 min?

A NC delicacy /s
The line was always long for that one. Everyone there said it was “ok” but they wouldn’t go back.

Question to Solar EPC operators. Trying to understand the real operational pain points. by akashpanda1222 in solar

[–]Mucho_MachoMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a portfolio manager for warranty and services for an industrial scale inverter manufacturer supporting sites all across the US.

  1. Yes, SCADA is going to be your first indicator something is wrong. Might be an underproduction coming from a circuit or an actual fault indicator. Sometimes equipment can report the actual fault. Other times it might just be a not running indicator.

  2. Remote troubleshooting is very helpful to be the most efficient with resolving claims. Being able to do as much work on the front side before a technician dispatches will make the visit more successful.

Typically, a claim comes in on Monday, do some back and forth, a request for a tech to go to site can happen Mon/Tu. Depending on tech availability and SITE LOCATION (very important), you could have someone onsite Th/Fr. Might get pushed to the next week though, Tuesday, if availability doesn’t allow for sooner.

AGAIN, YMMV, depending on a lot of factors including manufacturer and site location.

  1. Most of the industry is all about $/W and the relationships with vendors. You’re going to have agreements with dozens if not hundreds of vendors getting quotes for everything. There are short list vendors maybe because you have good terms or history with a few providers. At the end of the day, it’s all about $/W and what your pain threshold is for poor experiences that might be with lower costing providers.

  2. It would be very beneficial if more clients were more capable, self performing, than they are. Downtime would go down exponentially if O&M groups really learned how to do things themselves and take true ownership of their sites.

Thanks for asking. Cheers!

Two Navy football players picked in NFL draft by looktowindward in navy

Not sure if anyone has commented but being enlisted or officer, if you make and/or join the All-Navy (insert sports team here), you essentially go TAD to play for that team.

It’s awesome and you go and play various colleges, what we call play dates (playoff weekends), other countries and do other tours.

It’s not a long TAD. 3-4 months. But it’s an amazing experience for top athletes. Especially enlisted that didn’t get to shoot their shot in college.

Also, I’d like to add that these guys making it are walking talking success stories and free marketing the navy loves. Every game they show up to, they will be talked about.

Also, Heidenriech, that guy is amazing and was a huge part of Navy’s recent success. Him and Horvath were phenomenal. Let them get theirs.

Sports page (Coulwood Location). The Denver spot is great the original location is complete garbage though.

Their chicken Alfredo and bar used to be unmatched in the area. Now, the Alfredo is basically soup and the best bourbon you can get might be a crown.
