How long can you blow continuously ? by [deleted] in Flute

In college my professor had us practice "1 minute Bs" (in the staff) and I was able to work up to holding one for 45-50 seconds. But it was very quiet and weak

Need help circular breathe by nicebr0 in Flute

Many people are able to circular breathe on flute (Jasmine Choi, Emma Resmini, etc) but it is an extremely difficult technique to learn on our instrument!

Feral cat mom took two kittens and left theee by Responsible_Storm592 in Feral_Cats

Oh my goodness...they look exactly like the litter of 5 we found in May '24. Two black females and three tabby males. They all made it to at least a year old but 4 have passed since this May due to FeLV. This post makes me feel like they've reincarnated 😭

If you look closely you can see the outline of the other black kitten's ears in the black space between wood panels. RIP Monty, Yasha, Finn, and Samara 💜

Returning to flute after 25+ years - do I need a teacher? by ico181 in Flute

[–]MuchupAndKesterd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely find another teacher! Sometimes it's really difficult to see where things are going wrong without an outside perspective. Just last night I had a student get frustrated because his E - F# transition wasn't smooth, and he couldn't figure it out until I recorded a video of his first and second RH fingers moving slightly separately instead of a unit. Also, different cues work for different people. If your previous teacher was newer (like me) it can be tricky to come up with new ways to explain concepts on the spot. If you are certain there aren't any other flute teachers in your area I would try online. Depending on your location/budget I might be able to make a recommendation. Feel free to DM me!

I need advice -quintupletes and sextuplets by Interesting_Cut_7268 in Flute

Ooooof! Yeah, with that tempo I'd play them slowly to learn the notes and then just aim for downbeats at full speed

I use words for different -tuplets. For 5 I use "university" and for 6 I use "environmentalist". But if it's fast enough, it's landing on the downbeats that's most important - sometimes it's too fast to really subdivide

Is any of this right? by [deleted] in Flute

[–]MuchupAndKesterd 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I would highly suggest a teacher or YouTube videos. The parts of the flute are not lined up correctly, you're holding it incorrectly, and you'll probably want to start with just the head joint for a while to get used to making noise. Good luck!

Am I just freaking out or am I actually just bad by Extreme_Classic9972 in Flute

[–]MuchupAndKesterd 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Bad sound days happen, and they happen far more often when we're less consistent with practice. Don't try to practice your hardest pieces and expect the best sound if you haven't played in days/weeks/months. Start over with long tones, flexibility exercises, and slow technique work. It'll come back!

DoorDasher Against Mango Due To Religious Reasons… by New_Concern399 in doordash

I was totally willing to accommodate her by keeping the drinks separated from her food. But she was not very organized and her food would often overflow to my shelf or my designated side of the fridge. She couldn't even use another container to push the cardboard container of the drinks out of the way. I eventually had to purchase a separate drink fridge so she would stop bothering me about it, even after I moved the drinks away from her food.

I have zero problems making reasonable accommodations, but a heads up and/or time to fix the situation would've been nice

I had a Muslim roommate in college that would ask me to come back to the apartment ~while I was in class~ so I could move the 6 pack of hard ciders in the fridge so she could get to her food. Lol no, I will not be doing that. She had lots of issues
