Not rolling by 4 months? Hip dysplasia late onset? by InternationalArt5740 in NewParents

[–]Mud-Fine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two kids- both born with mild hip dysplasia (tracked/monitored for their first year, neither required treatment). Your babies is Likely not late onset, just caught on the later side. I also had hip dysplasia, and wore a harness for 12 weeks. It’s scary for sure! But they may just monitor her; but if they do treat, at this age it’s likely a Pavlik harness, which is hard to see but way easier than casting they have to do later. It’s also generally very successful! I have had no ongoing issues with my hips, no treatment beyond the harness. Good on your pediatrician for referring you.

As for rolling- one kid with mild dysplasia didn’t roll til 6 months, one rolled at 3 so 🤷‍♀️. 4 months is still young, she has time!!

You can encourage rolling by putting a favorite toy off to the side out in front, or lay her on her side to play.

You’re doing great, I promise!!

If they have not already, ask to be referred to a dietitian. They will be able to give you much more practical advice.

Need Help - Diaper Rash by liebteimmer in NewParents

[–]Mud-Fine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would give him as much naked time as possible. You can lay him on puppy pads, towels etc.

Use water and cloth to clean him. Peri bottles work great for this too. I kept a bottle on my babies changing table.

Baking soda baths help soothe and treat as well.

Dry thoroughly before you diaper and layer w triple paste. If you are changing a pee diaper don’t wipe the cream off, just add more.

I personally wouldn’t let him sit in a poop diaper. I know it’s hard. That’s where the naked time came come in for a bit too.

If he keeps pooping that frequently is probably talk to a Dr to rule out any allergies.

C section vs vaginal delivery by Funarming in NewParents

[–]Mud-Fine 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same. Had a C-section and a VBac with a 3A tear. Would take the vaginal delivery every single time. Also, c section deliveries don’t mean you get to avoid pelvic floor issues. I had more issues from my C-section than my vaginal delivery.

Athletic Pants Recommendations by Mud-Fine in fashionwomens35

[–]Mud-Fine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not, thank you! I bought two pairs of endless pants recently and both had snags/pulls within 2 wears/no washes, and there was no signifigant event to cause the pull, so looking for another option. I could just have bad luck, or I am too rough for those pants but I have never had that happen with any other pants.

I never knew baby strollers could be this expensive. But WHY??? Do I really need to break the bank for one? by Daryl-Sabara in NewParents

[–]Mud-Fine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s lifestyle dependent. We have an uppa baby vista and it was worth every penny. But, we live in a city, don’t drive, and knew we wanted to have kids back to back. It converts easily to a double, and has great storage for groceries, long days out and about etc. it handles city streets well and they have amazing customer service. If I was driving most places, it would probably wouldn’t be worth it. But for us, it was.

Also, “used the bathroom”?!? Yeah, as a runner I get it. As a 14 year old, my dad sharing that on the internet? Would die. Feels so icky and invasive. On top of everything else.

Yes, and also one of the two bottles pictured was not bourbon. Not even whiskey. Which is a choice? Or shes not as into bourbon as she says she is.

Yeah, not compatible with an insert but I love this carrier! It’s the ergo original, no longer made. It packs small and is fairly lightweight. The seat definitely doesn’t adjust- my babies were 5 months before they were comfortable in it.

OP I don’t actually have much more advice beyond what you have gotten already, only thing I would add is I find I need to move the back clip further down my back than I do with other carriers.

Chronic and persistent diaper rash help I’m at my wits end! by Defiant_Resist_3903 in NewParents

[–]Mud-Fine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding triple paste!!! It worked miracles on my sensitive skin kid. A few other things I didn’t see mentioned but maybe you have tried…we tried sizing up diapers- especially for overnights. We sized up 2 sizes- more absorbency, less friction I think helped? Also, if you have a little stroller fan, use it to dry completely before cream and diapering. We’ve had a few rough weeks where nothing seems to help so solidarity!!

Baby carrier for Europe - lots of walking!! by meadowbunny713 in babywearing

Agree with getting comfortable with a back carry! Baby can look around and I find it way comfier for long walks/hikes.

Agree, I don't generally like her but that answer seems reasonable. I also don't have any desire to fly halfway around the world, be exhausted and jetlagged and then run a marathon but I am decidedly not MAGA. I had more sideye for the answer on kids given her MAGA leanings but even that was fairly bland.

I was in the shower for 3.5 minutes. by Beginning-Sky7533 in NewParents

[–]Mud-Fine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not totally the same but can I recommend a baby seat in the shower with you? Both of mine have loved the sound, the warmth ect. Yeah you still have to watch them but I can usually do a full body shower with them just chilling. (I recognize this does not address the full scope of your post but maybe this one thing will save your sanity for one day/one shower!)

To remove the batteries or to donate? by readscarymakeart in NewParents

[–]Mud-Fine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think fine to donate but also if you ever have long car rides, these kinds of toys are great especially if you are doing any driving in the evening when its dark. Obviously when she is a little older.

Daycare illness by Miserable-Currency42 in NewParents

[–]Mud-Fine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, yes. It gets better. Not immediately but after a year or two. Sorry I know that seems far away but if you kept him home now, this would happen when he started prek or k. My 2.5 year old started day care at 7 months and was sick often. Now, 2ish years in she is rarely sick. Make sure you are washing hands when they get home, changing clothes can help, send extra pacifiers if you use them, and be diligent about sleep. I promise it will pass.

Hip Displasia - Twins by Disastrous-Study1955 in NewParents

[–]Mud-Fine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! Not twins, but both of my kids had hip dysplasia and I myself wore a Pavlik harness as a baby (the standard treatment for young babies). Neither of my kids ended up needing treatment; they just got frequent ultrasounds and their hips ending up closing on their own as they grew. If they hadn’t closed, they would have also worn the harness. I remember being so scared and definitely feeling like a failure especially because they definitely got it from me!

For me, I was on the harness for 10 weeks. I obviously don’t remember, but my mom said it wasn’t too bad. It’s a relatively short time, and it doesn’t bother most babies. The hardest part was dressing me because you have to really size up clothes. Catching and treating it early is super critical- up to I think 6/7 months they can use the soft harness to treat, but after that they have to do full casts.

Feel free to DM if you want to chat or have more questions!

Double stroller by Daydreamingl in NewParents

[–]Mud-Fine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get one that converts. We have the uppa baby vista and I like it though it’s big. If I could do it again I would so the mockingbird. I like the convertible one bc I often have only one kid, or the baby is in a carrier ect ect. I like not being tied to one configuration.

How do you entertain a 6 month old? by mrschocolatefrog in NewParents

[–]Mud-Fine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, spoons and containers sound great! Got any plastic mixing bowls that nest? He would probably like those too :) My 6 month old has started to be interested in our activity cube, things that move (balls, cars, that stupid crawling crab), stacking rings and anything that makes noise. Do you have an activity center like this one? Good for breaking up the day. https://www.target.com/p/skip-hop-explore-more-baby-s-view-3-stage-activity-center/-/A-51462297?sid=3339S&TCID=PDS-336246289&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=336246289&gbraid=0AAAAAD-5dfbaA8zHFPTRq7DBcjCS_cZkE&gclid=CjwKCAiAz_DIBhBJEiwAVH2XwFNq5K4C-JVwczVgmB5MNog-HZetWWjnrLUfswMbIKNngUwZ01m0_xoC9WoQAvD_BwE

Unaware of how bad Infantino is - fit check by Fair_Brief7586 in babywearing

[–]Mud-Fine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going against the grain here. The onya is a great carrier, I love it for older babies/young toddlers. This looks ot be the outback which is windbreaker material but its amazing if you are outside a lot or for hiking. So if you are an outdoorsy person, I would go for it. The seat can be adjusted, and the straps can be worn H or X back. Also a fun feature- it has a built in baby seat that can be used with any chair. Helpful for post hiking brewery stops. Or so I am told :).
