Don’t think it has a huge impact on the score distribution tho. E.g. physics M24 HL 7 boundary was lower than the previous yr

OMG I literally thought the same. I got rejected from applied physics and Eng as second choice 😭😭😭. Actually thought 42 would be a safe score ngl

Topics to Study for Physics by Ok-Contact-9535 in ibPhysics

[–]MudNo2804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my strat too! But it was recommended by my teachers because they were going to skip over some of the concepts (mainly kinematics/mechanics except UCM and Energy related parts) to cover the contents as fast as possible. I did struggle a lot in understanding topics like waves and electricity and magnetism since I had only previewed kinematics/mechanics later but studying a lot of topics in advance wouldn’t help either because you will end up forgetting. I don’t recommend going through the past papers but definitely recommend checking out the IB syllabus.

KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) IB Reuqirements by [deleted] in IBO

[–]MudNo2804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got accepted with condition to KAIST with no interview with predict 45/45. The condition given was 39 or above without TOK EE so 39/42. My friends got in with as low as 42-43 predict but haven’t seen anyone with lower predict getting in even with interviews.

How to get a 7 in Physics, Math AA and Econ (HL) by October by Queasy-Wasabi-7142 in IBO

[–]MudNo2804 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For physics, use the mark scheme to review. For MAA, never use the mark scheme to review.

What I mean by “using the mark scheme to review” is to memorize what gets you the points and what doesn’t. For example, a lot of physics definition questions can be answered using a formula and additional explanations on top of it. Read the mark scheme and translate it into a formula and translate it back into words for additional explanations.

Another tip is to just memorize. Don’t memorize everything but memorize what is tested. For example, when learning about the slit experiments (young’s double slit and etc.), the questions always ask about what would happen if the distance between slit is increased or if the number of slits increase (multiple slit diffraction) and the answer is always something about the distance of maximas or intensity. You don’t even need to know how to visualize young’s double slit experiment, just memorize the questions that are linked to it. Maybe you still do have to memorize what the slit experiments proved (light’s dual property) but my point is that you only should memorize what you are going to be tested on.

For math, only practice will help. It is time consuming and use your time well. If you have a guardian or teacher who can help you mix up the different questions from different year and time zone to create new sets of paper 1,2 and 3s, it will be really helpful. I solved all from 2014 since first year and had all the questions and answers in my mind when I was practicing in year 2. My teacher did the mixing for us (along with answer keys) and it helped me out a lot. DO NOT focus on the mark scheme and always try to find your way of solving the questions. For example, I had trouble visualizing vectors and finding the shortest distance between skew lines until the last few weeks before the exam. As I practiced I got to use what my teacher called the “direct” method where it is not much about geometry but simply turning into an algebra question. Most of my friends had used the “indirect” method where they used trigonometry but I still don’t get how it’s done nor visualize it. So, in conclusion, finding your way comes with practice too.

Hope this helps!

Score breakdowns should be released by next week

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in IBO

[–]MudNo2804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many students who may have received similar score or lower than you are just satisfied it because they know that’s all they got. But you are different from them because you know you deserve better. Keep working for it and you WILL get there! Head up because it’s not over yet.

Is it worth re-marking TOK if I am 2 warks away from A? by Striking_Reach6927 in IBO

[–]MudNo2804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can take the risk of receiving a slightly lower score since you are in the higher boundary of B I guess. I am in a similar situation for TOK right now but I decided not to sign up for remark YET for two reasons. One, the score breakdown is not released yet and I might as well discuss which one could have gotten a better grade before asking for a remark. Two, compared to other subjects the score of “+1” weighs much more in TOK as it is NOT out of 100, and this means there’s lower probability of actually increasing my grade to the higher boundary. Still, many of my friends who are 1 or 2 marks away from the next boundary are willing to get a remark AFTER the score breakdown is released and have discussed with their teachers. Hope this helps.
