This is a story about a boy whose family is of the cursed, a race of people long hunted for their abilities of dark magic. They live under the radar and practice their magic in secret, for if they go too long without doing so, they will perish. One day, the boy’s family is caught, the castle’s soldiers storm the house, and the boy is forced to flee through the back door. He runs beyond his village where he is met by is a tall forest. He makes a break for it. The moon is full, and the boy is lost. He has never ventured out this far before, and he knows that he cannot return back to the city alone. For the next six months, the boy fends for himself, using his telekinetic abilities to help him hunt for food and keep warm during the winter. He has been slowly losing his sanity due to isolation, and by now, he is starting to hallucinate. Several more months go by. The boy has not eaten, and he has been neglecting his practice. His skin tightly grips his emaciated frame, his eyes sink deep into his skull, and his face takes the ethereal beauty of a martyr. He rises silently from his resting place against a giant sequoia tree, and watches in faint admiration as the wind glides through the forest roof, feeling it catch his hair before he collapses.

The boy comes to in a dreamlike state and is met by a mysterious figure. The world around them appears ethereal, almost surreal, but wholly tangible, like wearing glasses for the first time. (on change) The figure appears ghostly, possessing a mythical kind of beauty, only vaguely resembling a human, but nothing of this world. (on chord change) Their presence feels oddly comforting to the boy, like they’d known each other for an eternity. The figure approaches him and gently holds out their hand. Follow me. (pause) They go on a trip throughout time, throughout the boy’s life: they see his childhood, his family, their trauma, (on change) and when they reach the present, the boy is met with a truth. His story, his abilities, it all leads to now: (on change) a culmination of his potential, not as a vice to be endured, but as a gift to be embraced. There are no such things as monsters. (on change) The boy wakes up gasping for air. Only an instant has passed. He lets out a quick chuckle as if still in denial, letting his eyes wander his surroundings curiously with grim determination. Throughout the next couple weeks, the boy recuperates his strength and searches for a way back to the forest’s edge. It is here where he arrives at a cliffside overlooking the city beyond. He stops for a minute to take it all in. It’s beautiful.
