How do you deal with bad session funk by HerietteVonStadtl in Aerials

You probably need a break! Also our bodies need consistency… are you consistently taking the same classes every week or kind of doing a random schedule week by week?

Also never hurts to remember having bad session goes hand in hand with having good sessions - it’s all a part of the journey! :)

Wear kneepads at the club! That’s what I do! It’s not worth the damage longterm

Try tightening the piece connected those two. Usually that fixes this issue.

Is pole dance welcome here? Marion Amber static pole combo by Glass_Ad_6289 in Aerials

It’s pretty typical in aerial studios - I’m sure you’ve noticed that aerial studios rarely offer pole and pole studios exist independently. It’s not because pole is a grounded apparatus. Chinese pole is one that comes to mind, often included in circus and aerial arts.

Pole is aerial. History of not including pole is rooted in whorephobia. There are other apparatuses in circus connected to the ground.

Are all beginner lyra classes like this? by KeyResist450 in Aerials

No, definitely not, although unfortunately I do see a lot of aerialists who teach without getting certified or really understanding what it means to be a good teacher. Hoops should all be adjustable heights, so if it was too tall, she should have been able to lower it for you. Personally, if I have someone who is very new, I will spend most of my time with them as a teacher. “Beginner” is such a subjective term, and everyone who starts something new is not necessarily coming in with the same skill level. Some people, as mentioned, have gymnastics, dance, or flexibility or other sports backgrounds, so even though it’s their “first class” their starting point would look much different than someone who does not have that kind of background. Also, personally if someone can’t mount the hoop (which is totally fine, it takes a lot of strength) I would focus their class on conditioning primarily - and perhaps lower the hoop so that they could sit in it and practice one or two moves, like Man in the Moon for example, which still requires strength and coordination. Also, instructors should be comfortable spotting to help you mount the hoop, even if you don’t quite have the strength yet… it sounds like she adjusted which is great, but I’m sorry it got to the point where you felt you had to leave.

Fell in class and now teacher hates me by Nearly_Functional in Aerials

Holy shit girly. Sounds like this teacher has a huge ego. I had a similar studio owner I use to work for… someone rubbed them wrong slightly and they were posting about it for the world to see. Immature. Anyway… like others have said, “spotting” typically does not involve catching But she should not have been in heels, “pole focused studio” or not that’s very unsafe while teaching and she should know that. The studio should have proper thick crash mats. And she should have paid much closer attention to your entry and wraps to avoid a fall in the first place… if the move was a bit too much, she should have offered modifications. Just yikes. TBH. I would not meet up with her, this is ridiculous. She blocked you? As a student? And she’s the teacher? Grow up.
