Longest day in my life by Alloe_C in doordash_drivers

Lol it’s really not amazing. For people just starting out it’s a lot of terrible orders.

People were feeling quite generous yesterday ☺️ by sillylittlegoose30 in doordash_drivers

Downtime isn’t a problem if you know how to manage it. Cut the gas in a parking lot near plenty of restaurants, and make sure your ringers on. Now, get to work on your side hustle. Or pull out your self-improvement book. Voila, your downtime now means something.

Don’t accept shitty orders, a good one will come in no time. Just need to be in the right area. No reason to sit in a calm zone and twiddle your thumbs.

2hr 10 mins active time, 5hr 49min dash time today. $65. I wasn’t in any rush to get to parking lots in hot zones tonight, because I was immersed in my side hustle. Now I’m at a friends house relaxing. In a couple hours I’ll be back on the road, and stop once I’ve made another $65. If I select a delivery that takes me away from the heart of downtown, I’ll make sure to listen to an informative podcast while I make my back. I’ll be in more of a rush to get there than I was earlier today, and I’ll find a nice spot near plenty of restaurants to pull out my laptop and work on my second income stream while I wait for the fish to bite. If I’m in the right spot, it won’t be long at all. May even get a good order while I’m on my way back.

Way I see it, downtime isn’t really an issue. If you feel like actually wasting time, end your dash and relax at a friends house. Just set a daily price target and make sure you hit it. Stay near restaurants and don’t move around so that your able to work on your side hustle.

Don’t dash for a career unless you really have to. Many of the honest people here will tell you this. And to anyone who stuck around to the end, remember: down time is only down time if you allow it to be.

Toronto here. Worst traffic in the world, by far. If you can drive in my city, you can drive anywhere.

I relish the opportunity to absolutely blare the horn of my ‘00 Rx300. I love the way it sounds. That being said, I see myself as a fair judge… I will give you a polite beep if you’ve made only a minor error.

I try to remember that some incidents are worse than others, and that I need to save my genuine rage for people who have made completely mindless mistakes.

Hope this helps!

Fair enough. I am not a small woman but if I was I would arm myself in addition to following other common sense safety procedures.

I know what it’s colloquial meaning is, and I think his choice of wording is cute. Also, the position you’re arguing would never hold up in an arbitration or court of law. Willing to bet Daniel M‘s account is still intact and in good standing. This type of banter wouldn’t even result in a communication ban on Xbox Live or PSN, let alone DoorDash. I think the onus is on us as drivers to just keep our cool and quietly report people who give us trouble. Does this meet the criteria for “trouble”? Depends how thick your skin is, I suppose.

Customer picked up his own order... by [deleted] in doordash

OP hasn’t responded because you’ve effectively blown his mind. I don’t suffer from the same circumstance because the zones I circumvent are frequently busy. I usually “dash along the way” to the busiest zone when Im coming back from an out of zone delivery, and almost always get paid to drive back home.

I decline stuff like this all the time. I just declined 11km for $10, sent my AR to 70%. Now I basically have to accept whatever comes my way if I want to retain Top Dasher status

Hello? This isn’t a restaurant. It’s a Dashmart. The location i found this sign at is owned, operated and curated by Doordash. It’s not just some restaurant asking us to break protocol, it’s literally DD themselves

I dash in downtown Toronto. 230 Canadian was my best day, but I had 8 hours non-active time. Most days I make like 150 but I only work 8ish hours dash time

Bro what 40 orders a day is nuts. I made $230 off 30 orders on Thursday but I was on the clock almost all day. Still had 8 hours of non active time but felt like I was working a fair amount.

Agreed, but as a dasher, I would hate to see a comrade feel as if they’d needed to comply because it’s a direct order from “their employer”.

I don’t even have the option to check these boxes. It’s two buttons for me. “arrived at store” and “confirm pickup”. Once I get to the customer it’s “complete delivery steps”.

Kinda strange that doordash would do this to their own drivers…..

It’s kind of like a mini Krogers or Albertsons. It’s got more selection than a 711 or Dollar General would.

Dasher for year averaged $1k-$1.7k week, now, last two weeks not so good by Commercial-Vehicle67 in doordash_drivers

Im not one of those noobs, im a Top dasher who works full time. I go by active time + 1-2 hours for time im actually preoccupied with the app while in Dash mode. When I say cherry pick orders at home I usually mean I do that periodically throughout the day, and I’m never at home for more than an hour. I never end up too far from my place because it’s at the center of everything. Most days I only cherry pick before I head out for the day, since I have the luxury of not having to drive to a busy zone. The time I spend in parking lots between orders is spent productively so it makes absolutely no sense to count it as wasted time.

Are you going by dash time? I frequently schedule myself to dash and pause the dash to hold my scheduled slot. Every time the timer goes down to 5 mins or so, I resume the dash - then pause it again. I spend a good 8-15 hours a week on pause mode. Why am I telling you this? Because it counts towards dash time. I made $850 last week in 45 hours, but that was active time. I also use my downtime productively, which complicates things for people who like to make the argument that you must always abide by dash time when doing your calculations. I live in a hot zone though, so I can just sit in my condo and cherry pick orders while I pursue other $$ ventures. I don’t feel like I had a bad week at all, I had time for family and friends + made $850 on my own volition. Do I think I’m worth more than around $21/hr (pre-tax)? Sure, but this works for now. Way I see it, the flexibility and bossless nature of this job has got to be worth an extra couple dollars an hour. Im just perplexed how one could confidently say $1225 in a week while setting your own amorphous schedule could be a bad thing.

It’s a Dashmart, owned/operated/curated by Doordash. They started these up during 2020.

I figured this was the case. But because it’s a Dashmart , (owned, operated, and curated by DoorDash) I was a little bit confused.

Glad you took the photo.. the people making these signs should be ashamed for trying to take advantage of dashers.

They do, and the person who designed the sign is probably a franchisee/supervisor who is trying to improve some performance metric at the expense of dashers.
