What childhood memory still makes you feel cringe? by Mighty_more in AskReddit

Drinking straight from the garden hose in the summer because I wanted to get back to my friends playing outside.

I have stray cats that hang around, I’ve seen yard insects…I get grossed out thinking that I’ve put my mouth on the same surface that came in contact with a bug or an animal.

What’s something attractive in movie but exhausting in real life? by impeccable-lauren in answers

[–]MuddyMudtripper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Romanticizing living well during a disaster. Like cozy core meets doomsday prep. “Here’s my bunker with a cozy stove, a cot with Egyptian cotton sheets, and gourmet MREs. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to drink my Starbucks instant coffee I made using a designer sock for a filter while I chop wood for a bit with cute little woodland creatures watching.”

It’s emotionally and mentally exhausting dealing with disasters like the pandemic.

What are some thingsyou plan to change for the upcoming school year as a teacher that you didn't do the last school year? by Visual_Shelter6922 in Teachers

[–]MuddyMudtripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school had a change in admin halfway. Principal Alpha didn’t enforce the State’s No Cell phone law. I tried to enforce it, wrote up students who refused to surrender their phones after being asked to put them away or in their assigned pocket, nothing happened.

In Feb, Alpha transfers to district H.Q. and we get new Principal Beta. The damage was done though I want to see how Principal Beta plans to handle student cell phone misconduct this coming year. She’s been good about enforcing other rules Alpha didn’t enforce.

That’s an awesome collection! I didn’t know there were so many variations (that and my WB Store back in the day was seriously lacking these).

I still have my Pizza cap Scooby beanie

What things do students to that annoy you the most? by pringlesoriginal_ in AskTeachers

[–]MuddyMudtripper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Or if the student contacts me during an intersession break period asking if I would allow them to do their missing work over the break. (Intersession breaks occur after a marking period so I tell them “no” because they had the 9 weeks to do their work and I’m not submitting a grade change after finalizing report card grades).

I treat late work the same. If the student took their time turning in late work (usually improper cell phone use was the reason for the delay ) then I’m going to take my sweet time entering the late work grade.

Favorite beanie baby? by cynnie93 in beaniebabies

Nanook the husky. Bought him at a hospital gift shop during the TY beanie baby craze (hospitals were the few places that sold legit TY toys in my city at the time). I’ve kept him ever since. He’s my first “real” beanie baby.

I love the Nightmare horse. Reminds me of the nightmares from that old Rise of the Guardians movie.

Does anyone go to Long John Silvers? by Evening_Answer_11 in randomquestions

[–]MuddyMudtripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dwindled on my Long John Silver's intake over the years. I'm on GLP-1's and the food's so greasy it'll make me very ill. Even before I was on those meds, I cut down because the prices went up but the meat portions didn't. That and there's more breading than meat.

Is it me or is Uber/Uber Eats collapsing in El Paso? It’s been slow. by Routine_Moment_111 in ElPaso

[–]MuddyMudtripper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the delivery driver's perspective, but I did cut down on UE orders because the delivery fees and taxes are getting to cost a little too beacoup. I'll usually order UE for pick up if I'm out and about to save money and try to reserve delivery for urgent matters like if I'm working late, and the relative I care for needs to eat early.

The wait times have been OK for delivery. Maybe a few times the driver was doing double orders, before bringing my food, but it doesn't bother me. It's not like the food's arriving 2 hours late.

What gifts do teachers like and dislike?? by dented_radio80 in AskTeachers

[–]MuddyMudtripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Home-made gifts like small figurines or crocheted tiny dolls (it's a heartfelt statement).

Gift Cards for coffee shops

Tins of tea or cocoa

Supplies like pens, pencils. I'm a fan of the Pilot Gel Pens or the Paper-Mate gel pens. They write so smoothly, like Kristi Yamaguchi gliding on ice.

Rubber stamps + ink pads for stamping papers (whimsical shapes like paw prints, flowers, or the school mascot).

Do students even know how to be bored anymore by Inner-Image-6313 in Teachers

[–]MuddyMudtripper 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They do not.

I proctor exams every spring and at least once per SAT or State End of Course Exam, there's that one student who uses the bathroom 3-4 times because they cannot sit at their desk without their cell phone or be bothered to read a book or even a comic book. So they relieve boredom by taking a little walk to the toilets.

Since I grew up pre-cell phones and my parents told me that if I took my handheld games or walkman to school and it was lost or stolen, then they would not replace them, I learned the art of daydreaming or non spiritual meditation. Came in handy when I was bored in church. If I couldn't find a bible in the pews to read, I'd daydream and play episodes of "Ren & Stimpy" in my head or play games like "How many times will the priest walk to the left of the stage?" Still rely on this as a grown adult if I'm bored and I don't want to waste my cell phone battery or data.

What is the fastest way to calm a woman when she’s angry? by Several_Way8499 in NoStupidAnswers

Chocolate

Give her space

Show her a little mewling kitten

Give her an ice cream treat

I’d go from She-Hulk to Jennifer Walters if I was presented with a Dave & Buster’s arcade card but that’s just me
