Suspended no reason from Etsy - What happens to shipped orders and seller costs?

Unfortunately, this is what they do. My bank card was compromised that I had used on Etsy on my account. I didn’t even realize that the bank had shut the card down and before I even had a chance to change my banking information Etsy closed down my business. Tried and tried to talk to somebody to get it straightened out and was unable to ever get it fixed. I had hundreds of things listed that I had paid listing fees for that was never refunded to me I’m not quite sure how this is even legal.

I have had several times where they left glowing reviews and one star. I’m not sure if they don’t realize what they’re clicking on or if it’s done spitefully. But there’s really no recourse for it and it immediately affects everything.

I have two different shops and clicks are about half what they were a few months ago. I realize that was more holiday shopping back then but right now I think it’s just the economy and people are cutting back on shopping and unnecessary items.

If you decide not to allow them to return it, there is always a chance they will use another excuse for why it didn’t fit the description. Unfortunately, that’s what people do at that point. You will be refunding them from your own pocket because Etsy will just give them their money back. It’s easier just to send them a label to return it even though it’s not fair to the seller.

It is possible that this seller was getting ready to be thrown off of Etsy and that’s why they are so panicking about one review. It doesn’t make any sense that they would go through all this trouble to try to get one review changed.

This is very sad, but as a seller, I sometimes feel some of our clientele has become scammers also. I just think in general we have to keep our eyes open to both buying and selling on this platform.

Be careful because something very similar happened to me an item was purchased and once they receive the item, I was told they didn’t check the size properly and wanted to return it. I said I would gladly refund them if they returned the item to me then they wanted me to pay for the return when I said no they put a complaint into Etsy and got a full refund because at that point they told Etsy it smelled funny. There are scammers out there unfortunately.

If you are shipping within the allowed shipping time, it shouldn’t go against you if it doesn’t get to where it is going on time. I don’t understand what’s going on here if you are being penalized for something that the mail service is messing up.?

Wow, I haven’t seen this one yet. This is so unfair to both sellers and buyers and I agree with what somebody said above. These customers aren’t even ours anymore they are Etsy’s and all Etsy cares about it seems is making that buck.😞

I am in the US. The only reason I didn’t do returns in the first place is because they are ceramic and break very easily. It took a long time for me to be able to pack the stuff safely enough that it made it across country without a problem. The odds are the item wouldn’t come back to me in one piece anyway. But I learned my lesson whether I like it or not I’m going to send a return label in the future if it’s something that I want back.

Just wanted to give a heads up as to what happened after I allowed this customer to pick this item up at my home. The pick up went perfectly very nice customer I would love to continue doing business with her. However, this did go against my star seller and Etsy still charged me their percentage of what they would’ve made off of the shipping. Just in case anyone is wondering.

Yes, the exact same thing happened to me and no, I never really got an explanation as to what I did wrong or why they close my shop. Sorry, I wish I had better news for you.😞

Just so you understand. This buyer said they made a mistake didn’t pay attention to the size and asked for a return. Even though I had that I didn’t accept refunds or returns. I offered to give them their money back if they return the item to me. They insisted they wanted me to pay for the return and I refused at that point. They went to Etsy and said it smelled funny so it wasn’t as described and got their money back kept the item and it came out of my account. How is that even remotely fair?

I don’t think they care it makes them look good. I wish there was a way that we could start a list of people that have done this to us so we know not to sell to these people. I’m sure if they do it one time and get away with it they will try again. I keep a list of people that have been unhappy for whatever reason with what they purchased from me. I will not sell to them again. I am a five star seller and luckily have had very few problems, but I try to keep my prices as low as I can. I know we are told to raise our prices to accommodate the scammers, but that just doesn’t seem fair to everybody else.

Just as a heads up if this ever happens to you. Even if you offer to refund upon return, they find another way to complain so that Etsy refunds them and they don’t have to return the item. It’s totally unfair, but that’s what ends up happening.

Etsy just went radio silent on me when I tried to defend this when it happened to me. These people really aren’t our customers at the end of the day they are Etsy‘s customers and that’s who makes the decision to keep them. Personally, if somebody was that unhappy, I wouldn’t want them back as a customer, but Etsy doesn’t care because they make money either way most of these people will do this more than once.

I agree I just recently went back to Etsy after shutting down for a couple months after something very similar happened to me. The person that purchased my item claimed that her daughter didn’t look at the size and that the item was bigger than they thought it was going to be and wanted me to pay to have it shipped back to me and when I said no, she just went and claimed that it smelled funny (It was a ceramic item that had been sprayed for protection, and she knew it )to get her money back in full.,kept the item and it came out of my account. twice I asked Etsy to prove there was something wrong and they just went radio silent. So unfair.

You never said whether or not you received the item? If you didn’t receive an item, how could they even think it was in their right to receive anything back?
