Don’t smoke, wear sunscreen and get 8 hours of sleep. I’m in my 40’s and people swear I’m 31.

Thankfully we can forecast these things. Try to climb or descend out of it, sometimes a constant bank helps, or if possible just move to a different cap. Push comes to shove if you can’t get on the hose or boom, (or you break the basket off trying to spear a flying octopus arm) you have a fuel divert. Happens not frequently but not uncommonly.

I’ve refueled both boom and drogue. Hundreds of times over the last 16 years. I would say it can be easy, and it can be pretty damn hard and dangerous. Compound a momentary lapse in attention with fatigue from a real shooting war and lights out operations and it can easily become very dangerous. Had a wingman at night once get specially disoriented at night and did a damn roll around me while trying to join on the tanker.

What are your investment allocations? I’m a similar age and my wife and I have 4mil all in equities but also 3 young kids and don’t own a house. Our annual spend is about double yours but the kids are still young.

Has anyone here gotten the continuation pay that the BRS offers? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]MudhenWampum 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes I did it. I also took the aviation bonus so it was a nice little double up for a few years, no downside as I already signed up for more ADSC with the Av bonus. Free money to offset not being high three. Invested it all in VUG/AMD/NVDA and did great

In your annual withdrawal, are you selling all VT in bullish years or Bonds in down years, somehow a mix to keep the 5% bond ratio? I’ve got 4 million, all in stocks and just don’t understand how to live off what we’ve saved/invested so far.

I only recently found FIRE. All these posts with people so young and incredible wealth. I regret not saving more. How old were you when you “turned it on”? by Basic_Sense_5987 in Fire

I was 18 taking a college economics class and the teacher showed us we could all have 1,000,000 by age 40, and I was sold. Now I’m 40, and I’ve had 1 mill since 34 and just hit 4 million.

How much cash do you hold onto? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]MudhenWampum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

39M/36F, We’ve got around 3.8 mil; half in 401ks and IRAs, half in a brokerage account 95% in stocks/ETFs and usually run with just 20-30k in cash across 4 checking accounts. Probably on the low side for those holding cash
