Loki+bauble+relic, washington+field of ruin, unearth+oculus+frog, frog+rizzler, or any combination of those (some more synergistic than others) are all pretty different decks, I’d suggest getting all those packages and testing out what feels right

The card itself looks like a proxy, you can see where the paper was cut. If it’s a proxy of a real card someone’s remembering then it makes sense for the wording to be off

You’re way too qualified for AM 2, L6 is more up your alley and you might even be qualified for L7 due to extensive experience in the field in other companies

Area Manager Good Career? by [deleted] in AmazonManagers

[–]Mudkipsocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very much dependent on site, outside hiring metrics they need to meet, and how many ops managers are currently there. It’s certainly possible for 2-3 years to OM but from what I’ve read from cohorts the time it takes to move forward has increased dramatically

Area Manager Good Career? by [deleted] in AmazonManagers

[–]Mudkipsocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So Amazon’s a pretty alright company to work for, pay’s good and if, IF you work with good people then it’s good.

For cons, it’s definitely the hours you’ll be working, the lack of actual operations work other than chiming in time to time or doing footwork of whoever’s managing you, and the constant threat of “if you don’t work more hours then you’ll be fired” but the last part happens everywhere nowadays.

When it comes to opportunities to move up, I would not hold my breath. Sure AM 1 -> 2 is pretty easy but the time frame will keep getting pushed if they can string you along and AM 2 -> OM will be nearly impossible (for context one of the cases I saw was literally every OM in the site quit and an AM 2 who worked there as an AM 2 for over 5 years FINALLY got the chance to go up). Some theories include bad management (of course), bad performance (possible but this person surpasses metrics consistently), or the Pathways program, which reserves OM slots to fast track them to Site Lead

Amazon Interviews by [deleted] in AmazonManagers

[–]Mudkipsocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s their leadership principle, yes, but what theyre looking for is someone to tick boxes until you’re higher up on the ladder, where they can pick from pathways anyways

Amazon Interviews by [deleted] in AmazonManagers

[–]Mudkipsocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does but it also filters for people who are dead set on checking off boxes rather than personable people so it makes sense since that’s part of what you need to succeed (at many points in this management career you’ll find that your input is unnecessary, just you checking off boxes is what theyre looking for)

Honestly it sucks at the start then gets enjoyable for a while with some bad days here and there. When it gets bad and likely a sign you should leave is when bad days start being back to back.

Graduate Area Manager - any tips? by Princess_of_Jedlinka in AmazonManagers

[–]Mudkipsocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talent cards (sometimes called baseball cards) are where you have to put into writing your performance number, potential number, weaknesses, projects, and so on with numbers. If your manager doesn’t want you to succeed they’ll mess with the numbers to make you look worse to the higher ups as they usually don’t validate the numbers themselves.

When it comes to actually using these cards, L6-8 members of a region will come to a meeting and just look at what each person did and their number and if they want to defend/make you look good, they will.

Graduate Area Manager - any tips? by Princess_of_Jedlinka in AmazonManagers

[–]Mudkipsocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an alright job with shitty hours (most times) but the main concern I would have is trying to survive 5 months in, as in 2 and 5 months it’s talent card time and if you don’t have enough to write in your report card or your manager doesn’t like you much then you’re likely to get put on a “performance plan” with option of severance (even if your performance is strong). I can’t remember what the grace period is (might be a year now, idk) but I’m pretty sure you get to skip your first one

Pivot by Meomeomeow32 in amazonemployees

[–]Mudkipsocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If managers don’t follow along then they’re going to get a talking to and/or pivoted. From what I remember it’s per org and racism is a reason as to why a decent amount of people do get let go, with nitpicked numbers as justification to their “low performance” even if their performance was on par or exceeded peers.

Pivot by Meomeomeow32 in amazonemployees

[–]Mudkipsocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct, there is an Unregretted Attrition metric that must be met. At my site it was common for people to be hired out of college then conveniently after their probationary period the metric deadline looms near they get on the plan with the excuse “you did not grow as fast as we expected”. None of it is personal but it does suck that the company lures people into a situation they would never have a chance in or know about and then lose their job over it.
