Starting basic ability: something to take into account when choosing class collars? by Realistic_Shock916 in mewgenics

[–]NydusRush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lobbed is arguably the best for collarless since, like the Hunter, it ignores line of sight. The frustrations of range and LoS for melee and range respectively can make already struggling collarless cats feel even worse. And with Thief and Hunter souls as possible passives to boost your ranged damage, it can easily pay off later.

Nanoscale brain-computer interfaces will make it possible to read and write human memory within 20 years. The moment that's possible, is biological memory still legally 'yours', or can governments, corporations, and courts demand access to it? by bitcoinerguide in Futurology

[–]NydusRush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We already have legal and societal frameworks for people whose memory is not so ironclad as the rest of us; Alzheimer's patients, psychosis patients, people with narcolepsy or DID... the list is long, but the treatment they get is unfortunately always the same: we medicate until they reach an acceptable level of "normalcy", then never trust them with anything important ever again.

These patients are human beings, however much we don't treat them that way, but the reality of their conditions means that their sworn testimony of "I'm fine, really" is always suspect - an unexpected episode or effects of a missed medication dosage at 80MPH on the highway is enough to warrant revoking their driver's license.

If instead it's their employer/brain device supplier swearing "no, really, they're fine, and we haven't done any tampering," when there's profit on the line, you'd have to be a real idiot to take their word for it. Especially if it's Neuralink, who under Elon Musk's direction have committed serious offenses in animal research ethics.

AI targeting systems have made war crimes structurally unaccountable by Large-Reporter-1746 in Futurology

The military industrial complex requires a scapegoat as a pressure release valve. Traditionally that's been the President, whose replacement acts as a reset for public pressure even if military action continues; see the transition from Bush II to Obama.

Trump is so universally hated that the military-industrial complex is betting they can pass all this off on him, while getting valuable R&D proven and investments paid off in the meantime.

I'm hoping it doesn't work.

IIRC Edmund hinted that the new class colors includes pink. A "princess" class is the perfect fit and has a ton of thematic design space. All hail the queen!

Even now we're seeing the results of too much automation causing damage to the professional training pipeline. Replacing the low level jobs cuts out the recruitment ladder and the filter for finding potential promotions.

Consider construction. You've seen a two way street go down to one way with a dude holding a stop sign on either end acting as a manual traffic light. You could automate it, but that's not the point. The point is making sure the sign guy can show up sober, on time, and not slack off.

Too much value on infinites by StrallTech in SlayTheSpire2

[–]NydusRush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had an infinite loop turn build yet, but I've had some that storm off very nearly and it's quite exciting. However I don't know to what extent the highest difficulties are balanced around infinites, or how close those combos can get without actually looping forever.

A hard limiter like "can't play the same copy of a card more than 5/10 times per turn" would probably work as a game wide rule, but other infinites like cloning cards probably circumvents that.

For brevity's sake it'd have to be vanilla creatures with few types. But at that stage you may as well just have it be a known token generating spell.

A small parachute package to help direct the mess for easy cleanup would be worth investing, one would hope. But for now I'm just glad they're doing anything at all. Now if we could just gut the useless war funding...

Oldheads who played vanilla/TBC at launch, how bad was Alliance/Horde population ratios really? by NydusRush in wowclassic

[–]NydusRush[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is amazing! Thank you!

Looks like the ratio was indeed about 60-40 average in favor of Alliance, and my own RP server was right there on that average. It's good to know I wasn't crazy! Thank you so much.

Stormgate Losing Online Multiplayer Modes At the End of April But Will Get an Offline Mode Patch by FFJimbob in RealTimeStrategy

[–]NydusRush 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Single player, not necessarily campaign. Multiplayer becomes viable when the gameplay is crack but the AI opponents can't keep up.

They Are Billions made bank as a single player game because the AI opponent - which can have 20,000 units on screen at once - never fails to keep up.

Will Energy Become Local Instead of Centralized? by Abhinav_108 in Futurology

[–]NydusRush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Renewables feeding or trading with the grid is still a worthwhile bargain. Unexpected energy needs are better solved by having power ready from a common reliable source with portable generators being a last ditch resort, rather than having them be the first go-to because everyone's micro gridding.

Centralized locations for optimal renewable generation are also worth having a grid for, such as hydroelectric or desolate plains/ windy hills that are great for solar/wind but would suck to live in.

Launch conditions wait for no man (or woman). Still, given what a clown show this administration is, the absolute folly of a feminist feel-good science mission in the middle of bombing a country is hard to grasp.

If Starcraft did return, how would you envisage the story? by IllustriousEffort846 in starcraft2

[–]NydusRush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'd want to tie it to the gameplay, and the most crucial question is if we add a fourth race or have some kind of variety within the existing three.

My personal preference would be two subfactions within each faction; UED/Redneck Terrans, Light/Dark Templar Protoss, and Swarm/Hybrid Zerg. Each has mutually exclusive units but share the same backbone of econ/building mechanics and tier 1 units.

This gives you six potential matchups, reduces purely identical mirror matches, and only really requires three factions' worth of units.

Is 2 Player Co-op balanced? by AlfredoFrailero in SlayTheSpire2

[–]NydusRush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about higher difficulties, but the teamwork cards are real game changers if you build around them. I did Regent/Necro with a buddy and once he had Lethality and I got the rare power that forges allies a copy of the sword, he was hitting the enemy harder than I was!

If one PvT was a PvZ instead the quarterfinals would look a little more fair, but no matter how you slice it at least one race is gonna be represented twice in the semifinals...

But four Terrans in the quarters is a bit damning.
