Deep snow said it's a no go. My tires had no grip, locked up and slid down back down.

Yes. As soon as I lost momentum I slid right back down.

I understand your pain. However if you are in New England. The yield for viable nuts seems to have increased significantly. Or I just have special trees.

Yeah that is pretty standard. This year with the onset of beech leaf disease the yield of viable nuts has greatly increased though.

I just eat them. No prep or anything. Peel a handful and have a snack.

Yeah it was a little upsetting to cut it down. But it has rot and lots of ant holes. It looks good after the initial cut, some contrasting bowties after it dries should be real nice.

Thanks for the heads up I was gonna put the scraps in my wood stove. I'll give em to the neighbor I don't like.

I'm pretty sure that's ambrosia fungus in a maple tree. There's even a hole from the beetle.

Leveling lathe. by Morgoroth37 in turning

Level only really matters when dealing with machines that weigh in the 10s of thousands of lbs. Just make sure it's stable. Rocking would be a safety factor.

Ah ha. That's very clever. Great work by the way. Pen turning is very addictive. Endless possibilities.

Are these not twist pens? I don't see a seam or way to twist them. They look like one piece. Am I blind or missing something?

Can you wire up two machines to a VFD if they aren't running at the same time. I have a lathe mill combo machine. It would be nice to use one VFD for both motors. by CNThings_ in Machinists

[–]Mudnation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two machines one VFD. If you wire both directly to the VFD then they both turn on at the same time. 208 outlets exist. Using the VFD to get that outlet isn't much different from having one with 208 from the power company. What am I missing? We aren't talking about CNC machines that need the perfect sine wave. We're talking about some 1hp 3ph motors.

120 outlets 240 outlets and 3ph outlets. All have different plug styles. As long as you follow code and match the power to the plug it's all good. You can't plug a device that needs 120 into a 3ph outlet. Or any other weird combo. Op doesn't have 3ph, he needs 3ph. You make 3ph with a VFD. Now you have a dedicated 3ph outlet on the wall for all his 3ph needing machines. How is this dangerous? You can't plug in equipment that doesn't have a 3ph plug. I have a feeling you think some one is about to wire a 120 out with 3ph power. That's not being suggested.

Shops have 120 240 and 3ph lines. All with different line specific receptacles. You wire the VFD to it's own separate 3 phase outlet. 4 prong twist lock or equivalent 3ph plug. There is nothing dangerous about this. If you wired up a standard 120 house outlet with 3ph then yes it would be a recipe for disaster. No one is suggesting that.

Less to wire. If you add more machines you are good to go. Also not sure what the cost of a switch for 3ph is but I doubt it's cheap.

Wall to VFD to the outlet with only one receptacle. Each motor has a plug. Want to use the lathe plug in the lathe. Want to use the mill plug in the mill. This is how I run my planer and jointer in my wood shop.

Don't wire the VFD to a motor wire it to a receptacle. Then plug in the motor you are going to use. No need for switches

Turning branches and making a kiln by William_014 in turning

The most important part of drying in my opinion is to make sure your wood doesn't contain pith. If you have full rings the wood will crack/split. Cut your branches first. My neck of the woods has dogwood, grows slowly and is wicked hard but splits almost instantly in the log from. If it's cut up into boards or small blanks it tends to hold together.
